Dear Friends,

In this issue we round up the art fair reports from Los Angeles and London.  The Armory's West-Coast debut fair 'Art Platform' in LA was very well received and Blue Tangerine Art clients came away happy with investments in art by up-and-coming artists. Catch up on London's Frieze art fair with a podcast report by ArtTactic.

At Blue Tangerine Art we highlight new photography by Allison Hunter and encourage you to view her Blue Butterfly Series of digital c-prints ahead of her solo show in Houston 'Hanging By A Thread' next month.

In a special one day workshop for artists I am offering advice on how to Ignite Your Art Career on Nov 19 in LA. Please join us!

We wrap up with a recommendation for your night stand: Richard Polsky's new book, "The Art Prophets". Listen to his podcast interview about the book and insightful commentary on the art market.

As we go to press, the New York auctions are in full swing with very mixed results for sales of Impressionist and Modern art. We will be watching as contemporary art lots go under the hammer next week.

Warm regards,

Trudy Montgomery

Collectors were somewhat cautious at first but things picked up over the weekend. Slotover also shares to what extent the global aspect of the art market was manifested at this year's fair. Matthew also touches on London's increasingly influential position within the art market. Lastly, Matthew previews the inaugural Frieze New York fair.  Listen to the podcast here.
Allison Hunter: Hanging By A Thread
The Blue Butterflies Series

Allison Hunter
Allison Hunter, Untitled #1 (From the Blue Butterfly Series), 2011, digital c-print, 30 x 30 in., ed 1 of 5, $3,500 each
For the past nine years, Allison Hunter has been making photographs and videos of animals in zoos. She photographs the animal and later digitally manipulates the source material in various ways-such as removing the background in order to better see the creature, or by changing the original color (as in the Blue Butterfly series) to emphasize the formal beauty of the insect.

Her new work is now available to view and purchase at BlueTangerineArt.com
Calling All Artists: Ignite your Art Career
A one-day workshop, November 19

Trudy Montgomery invites visual artists to a one day workshop to Ignite Your Art Career on Sa
turday, November 19th in Los Angeles.

All artists dream of locking themselves away in the studio and doing nothing but making art. The reality is however, that artists need to be savvy about managing the many aspects of their career - from marketing and promotion to showing, pricing and selling their work.

Whether you are a part-time or full-time working artist, this one day workshop will help you advance your artist career goals.

Artist and art advisor, Trudy Montgomery, will provide practical advice to overcome challenges to secure sales, gallery representation and successfully navigate dealer relationships. Drawing from her own experience and real world examples of how other artists have overcome challenges, she will inspire you to ignite your career for success.

"Trudy is an inspiring and motivating force, a true champion for her artists' success.  She has helped me navigate through challenging situations in the art world and continues to offer excellent counsel as I manage my career as a full time artist" - Patter Hellstrom, Artist, San Francisco, CA

Cost: $99 per person. Early bird discount ends Nov 10 - please see below or visit our Facebook event page for registration details.  Space is limited.
11 Art Prophets Who Shook the Art World

Here's a new art book for your bedside table: The Art Prophets: The Artists, Dealers, and Tastemakers Who Shook the Art World by Richard Polsky.  In his signature down-to-earth whistle-blowing style, Polsky provides another behind the scenes expose in this account of 11 movers and shakers who made a real impact on the art world based on their passion, commitment, vision and money.

Happily, the motivation behind their successes "went beyond the art of the deal, and returned to the appreciation of art itself" says the author. Whether they are truly prophets is for you to decide, but Polsky is convinced that "The prophets in this book altered lives."

The book also provides solid background on 10 art movements, from pop to photography - an easy way to brush up on your art history and the people who created it while enjoying a great read.

Polsky's book is available on Amazon.com in Hardback.
