Dear Friends and Clients,

As galleries close their doors for the summer hiatus Blue Tangerine visited artist studios and caught up on some of the art films of 2010.

Celebrated Southern California artists Charles Arnoldi and Michael Gallagher opened their studios to Blue Tangerine Art this month. See below for details on the visits.

After last month's diplomatic exchange of paintings between President Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron, street art came into the national spotlight.  Recently the artist Banksy, who has been credited with popularizing 'street art', directed his own film 'Exit through the Gift Shop'. Although Banksy's intentions in making the film are never quite clear, it is nevertheless a thought provoking film about a genre of art with implicit contradictions.

Warm wishes,
Trudy Montgomery

Blue Tangerine Art Visits Artist Studios: Charles Arnoldi & Michael Gallagher
Celebrated Southern California Artists

Blue Tangerine Art has been visiting artist's studios this month to find the perfect pieces to place in your home or office.

At Venice-based artist Charles Arnoldi's studio we saw iconic works from the 80's, including Frozen Lips, from his acrylic, modeling paste and sticks period.

Further south Blue Tangerine Art visited celebrated painter Michael Gallagher's studio where we saw seminal works that dated back to the 70's.

In both studios we saw recent paintings in addition to the older works; it was a privilege to view the evolution of each artist over decades of painting. We would be delighted to show you their available work, so please call to make an appointment today.

BTA Highlights Art Film:
"Exit Through the Gift Shop"

Mock Documentary Brings Attention to Street Art

Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop
Banksy Exit

Banksy, a pseudonym for the artist who continues to remain anonymous, has confounded critics and collectors alike, keeping his identity a secret while his name and artwork are notoriously well-known in the contemporary art scene.

For example in 2007, Bombing Middle England, an image portraying Boules players rolling bombs across a lawn, sold for 102,000 pounds at a Sotheby's auction.  This was the highest price achieved for a Banksy artwork or, for that matter, any artwork from an artist labeled a 'graffiti artist'.

So it is no surprise that Banksy's most recent film, "Exit Through the Gift Shop", has people questioning its meaning and authenticity as a documentary, a reflection of the sentiments that also surround the genre of 'street art'.

The film reveals the secretive world of street artists like Shepard Fairey as well as a cameraman turned artist who go to extraordinary lengths to avoid being caught in the act of creating. In filming this docu/mockumentary the artists create a record of their work which might otherwise have been painted over and lost. They are portrayed as private and elusive, though ironically are made more visible through the publicity gained as a result of the film.
