Dear Friends and Clients,

We are back in uncharted territory. Despite the recent global stock market jitters and economic unrest, the art market may be exiting its recession and entering a new era for Postwar and Contemporary Art. The New York auction results this month were positive for both Christie's and Sotheby's sales. Celebrity collections offered blue chip works that commanded free press and record prices. See below for auction coverage and listen to this free ArtTactic podcast with analysis by San Francisco art dealer and author, Richard Polsky.

Blue Tangerine Art was at the new San Francisco Fine Art Fair this past week, the first contemporary art fair in the Bay Area for more than six years. A strong turnout and some solid art offerings made it a respectable fair given its zero base start.

This month are pleased to highlight new Blue Tangerine artist Kim Frohsin. Frohsin's intimate figure studies of the female form and her intuitive use of color transform this traditional subject matter into a contemporary art form.

With June fast approaching, the international art community is anticipating Art Basel, Switzerland. With a slump in confidence in the euro, investing in art sourced from Europe is ever more appealing to collectors with American dollars.

Warm wishes,

Trudy Montgomery

A New Era for Postwar and Contemporary Art

NEW YORK - May 2010 might come to be remembered as the month when postwar and contemporary art became fully integrated into the broader art market.

A remarkable parallelism could be observed between the auctions of Impressionist and Modern Art last week and those dealing this week with the art of the later 20th century and of the last 10 years. Christie's triumphantly led, in both cases, with sales totaling $360 million last week and $292 million this week, against $233 million and $243 million for Sotheby's.

A larger than expected crowd came out to herald the new San Francisco Fine Art Fair - the first of its kind for more than six years - with collectors, artists and art lovers acknowledging a respectable fair with a solid offering of contemporary and modern art. Dealers reported mixed sales results but with many saying they will support the show next year.

New Blue Tangerine Artist: Kim Frohsin
Abstract Figurative Expressions

Kim Frohsin, For Jax
Kim Frohsin is celebrated for her abstract figurative expressions. We are delighted to present these intimate figure studies of the female form, which she creates using the brush, tape and the palette knife.

Working with live models in her San Francisco studio, these loose abstractions capture the essence of femininity in all its mysterious guises.

Frohsin's intuitive use of color sets her apart from other figurative painters and transforms this traditional subject matter into a contemporary art form.
