Dear Friends and Clients,

The focus this month was New York's Armory Arts Week where Blue Tangerine Art witnessed renewed momentum in the art market. Collectors have re-entered the market, with a revival of interest in stand-out works at the Armory and blue-chip art at ADAA. We also visited galleries in the Lower East Side and enjoyed the 2010 Whitney Biennial where Pae White, Leslie Vance, Stephanie Sinclair and Thomas Hauseago were highlights.

The emerging optimism falls on the heels of the recent strong auction results, which included the record-breaking $104.3m Giacometti sale at Sotheby's London in February. At Christie's this month, a record price tag of $45-60m has been placed on a Picasso painting from his celebrated 'Blue Period'.

At Blue Tangerine Art,
we are excited to welcome Kate Duggan, who has joined as an Assistant Art Advisor in Los Angeles. We have also expanded our website to highlight client case studies which showcase a selection of art installations for private and corporate collections, as well as advisory work for hospitality clients.

After a period of retrenchment, the current flurry of art market activity seems to signal an imminent return of the overall market.

Let the collecting begin!

Collectors attend NY Armory Show
For the past week, the art community has focused on New York City's annual Armory event, in which artists put their best pieces forward, dealers and galleries are on the prowl and collectors look for new finds that will someday redefine their portfolios.

Momentum from the contemporary art auctions at Christie's and Sotheby's was certainly present, as all in attendance seemed focused on opportunity rather than window-shopping. The efforts at the Armory were consistent with a marketplace that's active, not the crushing fear that characterized the art market through the second half of 2008 and most of 2009.

1. Koons went bare
What was expected to be the controversial event of Armory Week turned out to be subdued, though well attended. Jeff Koons offered a tribute to open sexuality with an exhibition that opened last Tuesday.  Read the article...
