Dear Friends and Clients,
This month we are delighted to introduce the mixed media abstract images by Cressandra Thibodeaux. Originally trained as a photographer, Thibodeaux uses a resin and metal leaf mixed media process to
enhance the effects of light and blurring inherent in the moving image captured in a single moment of time.
Meanwhile, the art market has bottomed according to Sotheby's which posted sobering first-half results for the year, with an 87% drop in Q2 profits. Christie's emerged with a respectable $1.5 billion auction sales for 2H, boosted by the YSL/Pierre Berger auction, against Sotheby's $995 million for the same period.
We wish you a happy high summer.
Warm regards, Trudy

Cressandra Thibodeaux Rocks in Motion

Cressandra Thibodeaux is a photographer and former photo-journalist who, since the 1990's, has focused less about "documentary truth" and more about "abstract truth." With a background as a film maker, Cressandra's fine art practice is naturally preoccupied with the effects of light and motion.
Her recent series, "Rocks in Motion" was inspired by Ross Bleckner's "Constellation" paintings. Exploring her American Indian heritage, Thibodeaux was concerned with capturing within nature the suggestion of spirits, spinning like stars within a vibrant galaxy.
Most of the images were taken at various "Rock and Gem" shows across the USA. She then uses a mixed media process including poured resin over gold or silver leaf, which both captures and reflects the light trapped within the piece itself. The result are luminous works that glow and change as the external light source.

Sotheby's Sees Art Market Bottom
Sotheby's suffered a double blow of embarrassments, posting a 87% drop in profits for Q2 2009, and a mere $995 million in auction sales, which equates to two thirds of Christie's $1.5 billion in takings for the first half of 2009.
"Unless there's some external event we're not aware of, we believe the market has bottomed out," William Sheridan, Sotheby's CFO, told Bloomberg.
The Yves Saint Laurent / Piere Berge auction in February was an extraordinary coup for Christies, and was the primary reason for the dwarfing of Sotheby's figures. Sotheby's has been slashing operating costs and increasing margins to appease shareholders.
