SAVASANA -SVAROOPA STYLE
by Mary Stracensky

Savasana or Shavasana as we Svaroopis spell it (I've been told the correct Sanskrit pronunciation is... "sha-vasana". So, the "h" is added to help people pronounce it correctly.), is a pose that helps to settle your body down and in the process settle into yourself. By using a few props to support your body you will get a deeper release of tension. Lying on the floor with your legs propped and a small pillow under the head allows you to experience deep rest. And, more importantly, Shavasana helps to remove the obstacles to your own inner peace by cleaning your inner window of the accumulated grit and grind of life, so you can clearly experience the peace that is already inside you! Try Shavasana as your yoga practice every day for 7 days. Start at 5 or 10 minutes and build up to 20 minutes every day. Experience the deep effects of Shavasana... Svaroopa style!

-- therapeutic massage and reflexology support health by relaxing the body and nervous system?

-- the spine is the powerful interface between body structure and function?
-- a healthy spine allows for the normal flow of nerve impulses necessary to coordinate body functions?

"Becoming healthier doesn't have to be a daunting process," says Dr.Kimberly Beauchamp, a Naturopath at All That Matters, "  the wonderful thing about the body is that it naturally wants to be in a state of optimal health. With time-tested therapies, and often small, simple changes, this state can become a reality."

This year, take charge of your health.  Explore options for supporting your wellness. At All That Matters we offer Naturopathic, Acupuncture and Chiropractic care along with other healing modalities.  Now's the time to improve your overall health and vitality!

11 WAYS TO BE AT PEACE DURING TIMES OF CHANGE

We asked some of our teachers how they choose to be at peace during times of change and uncertainty and here's what they had to say:

"...Whether on or off the mat, I use the breath to pause, feel, and tune in, enabling the sharp edges to soften. Doing is the state of moving toward something. . . in contrast, feeling is the state of being in the moment. Peace comes from being completely present and feeling what is going on in the now."
-Joy Bennett, LifeForce Yoga Practitioner and Yoga Instructor
Joy teaches LifeForce Yoga to Beat the Blues beginning this Sat, Jan10th.

"When the world around me becomes chaotic, I find it more important than ever to connect to my own inner peace and stillness on a regular basis.  Knowing that I can tap into this resource at any time is a great comfort and keeps me grounded in what is really important."
-Erin Sharaf physician's assistant
Erin teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction  beginning Jan 15th.

"I put on some good music and do my yoga asana practice!"
-Dave Harrigan, Yoga Instructor
Dave teaches Warri-Yoga and Martial Arts Fusion on Feb 8 and weekly yoga classes.

"A meditative walk in nature interspersed with prayers and affirmations always helps me find peace.  Yoga postures and breathwork also transform any unsettling energies I experience."
-Heidi Gabrilowitz, Integrated Energy Therapy Master Instructor
Heidi teaches IET Level 1 on Jan 25th.

"By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. "Dr Phil proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.'

"So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates.
"You have no idea how incredibly good I feel right now!"  And tomorrow.........
I begin anew from the inside out at All That Matters!
