Welcome back to another school year! The Convocation this week energized everyone. It is exciting to have a single goal we can all focus on - the Spring Branch T-2-4. We in Technology will do all we can to insure students, teachers and staff are prepared for the future. Our job is to make sure kids "get ready, get in and get through" some form of higher education when they leave SBISD.

The start of school is a challenging time for Technology Services. We are more prepared than we've ever been but we are still way behind where we need to be. Please bear with us as we work through delayed schedules at construction campuses. We are forced to pull CSEs (customer service engineers) from other campuses to get construction campuses going on day one. This does cause problems for other campuses but if you are a construction campus that's what you'd want! It is a HUGE balancing act for us. We are working a lot of overtime - evenings and weekends, and we appreciate your understanding as we do our best to get everyone computer access in time for the start of school.

On a different note, as you know, we continually innovate in Technology Services. Here are a few recent innovations:
  • Reengineered NetBooks so they are much faster to boot up and operate
  • Reengineered Help Desk system so it is more friendly
  • Reengineered Buyer's Guide so it is more friendly
  • New Self Serve Password Reset system so users can reset their own(forgotten) passwords
Let us know how we can serve better. Have a great start of school!

BuyersGuideMajor Changes to the Buyer's Guide

The Buyer's Guide had too many items and was getting too long for users to wade through and for us to maintain. We redesigned the Buyer's Guide with three goals in mind.

GBCategoriesGradebook Categories for Secondary Teachers

Attention all secondary teachers. Are your categories and percentages set up for each of your gradebooks? All secondary-level gradebooks need to have categories and percentages set up prior to the end of the first progress report period. Once the first progress report period ends you will no longer be able to set up your categories and percentages. If categories and percentages are not set, your students' progress report grades will show as a zero.

GBDueDatesSkyward Tip: Due Dates in Gradebook

The Skyward Gradebook is completely date driven. This means teachers need to be mindful when entering assignments into their gradebooks to ensure the grades are counted in the correct grading period. The dates not only drive the grading period but also how the information displays in Family Access.

ActivBoardActivBoard Tip

If you suspect something is wrong with your ActivBoard, check to see if the "flame" on the top left corner of the board is white. If so, verify that all cables, including the power cable, are connected properly. If the "flame" on the top left corner of the board is red, blue, green or completely off, then there is a problem with the ActivBoard. You should then contact the Help Desk at x8324 or submit a ticket through our new, easy to use Help Desk system.

SANFolderDon't Risk Losing Your Files! Save to Your SAN Folder!

Every SBISD employee has a SAN Folder, also known as an H-Drive. It is a storage folder on our network where you can store files such as Word documents, Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations, etc. It is strongly urged that everyone save their files to their SAN Folder. Why? Because your SAN Folder is backed up and files stored here can always be restored if accidentally deleted.

ReimagingDoes Your Computer Need Reimaging?

We often make updates to our computers in SBISD. Many of our computers were scheduled to be reimaged this past summer. Computers that were scheduled to be reimaged but did not get reimaged may experience difficulty accessing the SBISD network.

PasswordsNew, Easy to Use Password Reset Tool

Technology Services has launched a new service which empowers users to reset network passwords. If you have logged into the SBISD network since returning from Summer Vacation, you were prompted to set up questions and answers that will be asked should you need to reset your password.
