During its regular monthly meeting, the Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees recognized 46 students from prekindergarten to 12th grade. These students earned annual Character Without Question awards during a special presentation. Trustees also honored a middle school Spanish teacher and an amazing grandparent volunteer at Northbrook Middle School as the district's Employee and Volunteer of the Month, respectively.

Special Presentations

Recognized as the March Employee of the Month is Northbrook Middle School Spanish teacher and coach Art Nevarez. A former campus teacher of the year, Art displays leadership excellence as a faculty member. He has had a significant impact on the education and development of many middle school students. "He is the teacher all parents want their children to have. Everyone who enters his class knows there will be high expectations, but his students also know that they have a teacher who will lovingly guide them through to success," his nomination states.

March's Volunteer of the Month is Northbrook Middle School volunteer and proud grandparent Felipa Munoz. Rain or shine, this amazing volunteer appears each day ready to help teachers and students. She assists office staff, teaches parent cooking classes and cake decorating, and aids the classroom teachers with materials. She also volunteers at Buffalo Creek Elementary as well as an area school in Cy-Fair. A dedicated volunteer, she recruits others, encouraging other grandparents and parents to get involved. She has logged more than 1,100 volunteer hours since last summer.

Northbrook High School was the site for March's meeting to accommodate families for the 2012 Character Without Question Award Recognition event, which included a student and families reception. This year's theme "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" included a large stage backdrop for the popular Dr. Seuss book titel, and an arrangement of individual student posters. Forty-six students were selected this year for traits that included honesty/integrity, responsibility/dependability, respect, perseverance/effort, courage, and caring/kindness. Trustees greeted and recognized each student during a special presentation.
