Trustees appoint new member

The Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees has appointed district parent and committee member Christina Gonzalez to fill Trustee Position 2, which was recently vacated by Mary Grace Landrum.

College Nights 2011, a two-evening informational program designed especially for high school students and their families, will be held for the eighth consecutive year Oct. 4-5 at Spring Woods High School, 2045 Gessner.

New leaders named at six SBISD campuses

New school principals will head up leadership teams at several Spring Branch ISD campuses, including Memorial High, Spring Forest and Spring Woods middle schools, and Spring Shadows and Thornwood elementary schools. The new school year began on Aug. 22 for about 33,000 district students.

Memorial-Stratford High football rivalry opens 2011-12 season

Despite realignment changes in divisions, the classic football rivalry between Memorial and Stratford high schools kicked off the athletics season Aug. 25 at Darrell Tully Stadium. Memorial won the annual match up 14-0 on the first night of the SBISD high school football season.

A recent Landrum Middle School graduate ran fast enough at the USA Track & Field Regional Meet this summer to qualify for the 2011 USA Junior Olympics in Wichita, KS.

Pines Presbyterian volunteers help Ready Sherwood Elementary

About 75 volunteers of all ages met at Sherwood Elementary on August 26 to help faculty and administrators prepare for the new school year.

The third annual church volunteer day was the biggest ever, and it resulted in improvements ranging from the reroofing of the prekindergarten's sandbox to repainting of the drive used for student drop off and pick up.
