How Women Wield Power and Advance to Top Managemennt in the Knowledge Era Employing Jessica's Web
Wednesday, 5/14/08 12pm EST

Today corporations are being shaken by the discontinuous changes in their established markets in ways that make knowledge the new driver, not labor, machine, or money.  For example, at the multinational corporate level, new competitors emerge in established markets, such as, Lego, Mattel, and Hasbro now being confronted with Sony, Nintendo, Electronic Arts as well as pharmaceutical giants Merck, Novartis and Pfizer competing with biotechnology companies.  Even the innovator, Procter and Gamble, is committed to finding 50% of its new products outside of its massive research and development departments.  In this era, knowledge first wins the markets and women have an advantage.  They are better prepared to build, use, and maintain large knowledge webs, because knowledge must be gathered from people in the far corners of the markets.  Women, Dr. Graen believes, can lead organizations in this era, because women have superior web construction, use, and maintenance knowledge and skills.  His theory of how to break glass ceilings contains a wealth of techniques, tactics, and advice on how anyone can use the career strategy called Jessica's Web, the title of his latest book.  Dr. Graen will share the results of more than three decades of research on behavior that contributes to corporate advantage.

Dr. Graen is an educator and practicing organizational psychologist who has researched leadership in the process of innovation within organizations for over three decades.
