Take the Sword
by Pastor Graham Cathers

Pastor Graham CathersLast night I heard a message by Eric Johnson, the son of Bill Johnson from Bethel Church, that I felt I needed to share with you.

There are some of you who have been experiencing some tough times lately and you're asking,"Why is this happening?" I don't know if you've ever been there but I have on a number of occasions.

What I'd like to do is give another perspective to help you frame your situation in a different light. "There are no problems in life; only opportunities" (Steve Backlund).

I Cor 4:8-9 says:

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do, but we don't give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. (TLB)

Every one of us can relate to what Paul is saying. There are times in are life when it feels like we're in the fire, there are troubles on every side, we're crushed but not broken. We really don't understand what's going on but we don't quit and give up.

In the middle of whatever you're facing today God has not
abandoned you, He's with you right now.

You may have been knocked down but not out. It's time to get up again and keep on going. Proverbs 24:16 says, "A righteous person may fall seven times but he gets up again" (GWT).

We all remember the battle between David and Goliath. He hit him with a stone and Goliath fell but he wasn't dead. As he lay on the ground David realized he needed a sword to finish the job, so he used Goliath's sword to take off his head. Years later, as he's running from Saul, David comes to Ahimelech the priest and he asks for a weapon. The only weapon available is the sword of Goliath. At this point Goliaths sword became the sword of David (see 1 Samuel 21). The sword that was meant to kill David became his weapon.

The thing that was meant to be against you,
will become your greatest weapon.

So take courage today no matter what you face the sword which is pointed at you is the very one you will take from the enemy and use to destroy him.

Kenneth Hagin and Oral Roberts were dying with incurable diseases in their teens. They were healed by God and went on to have a great anointing and passion to heal the sick. Eric Johnson had four hernia operations in his twenties and is 90% deaf in both ears - guess which two areas of healing he goes after with unusual success?  Deafness and hernias.

It's time to take the sword out of the enemies hand
and use it against him.
