What Are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are phytochemicals, Fruitvitamins and other nutrients that protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals. In vitro en in vivo studies have shown that antioxidants help prevent the free radical damage that is associated with cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants can be found in most fruits and vegetables but also culinary herbs and medicinal herbs can contain high levels of antioxidants.

A study in 2006 by Thompson HJ showed that a botanical diversity of fruits and vegetables plays a role in the biological effect of antioxidant phytochemicals. The consumption of smaller quantities of many phytochemicals may result in more health benefits than the consumption of larger quantities of fewer phytochemicals.

Types of antioxidants:

Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Beta-carotene, Selenium

How much do I need?

- Vitamin E: 15mg
- Vitamin C: Women (75mg) Men 90mg
- Beta-carotene: None

Coach Berry's Corner
CoachBWhen is the best time of day to workout?
The short and simple answer is that the best time of day to workout is the time of day that feels best for you. It is your body and how you feel.
There are those early birds who enjoy training first thing in the morning and there are those who train later at night.
Train at whatever time feels most comfortable for you, as long as you leave at least a 3-4 hour gap from the end of your workout until the time that you go to bed. If you are an early morning person, plan for a protein packed nutrition after working out and before you start your work day.
Feed your body properly and often for maximum results you can see and feel. You can not expect muscle growth without fuel nor to feel full of vitality and energy if your 'fuel tank' is running on empty.   Remember a key part of your nutrition plan is plenty of water. When you are dehydrated you body shuts down, you don't think clearly, you loose strength and energy besides developing a massive headache. Hydration is critical.

Why bother with wheelchair exercises?Scott Curl
The answer to this question is simple as it holds good for us all non-wheelchair users as well as those who are wheelchair bound. There are two essentials which benefit from exercise. These are your health and your well being. Exercise helps to increase your strength, your flexibility, and may even improve your mobility. Additionally, exercise helps to strengthen your heart and lungs, it can have beneficial effects on the other vital organs of your body and it is a great way to help you control your weight.

Types of exercise:

Exercises fall into different categories:

Resistance Training to help create a lean and toned body. Did you know that resistance exercise is more beneficial than aerobic exercise for fat loss?

Aerobic Exercises to elevate your heart rate over a sustainable period of time.

Stretching
to extend your limbs and muscles to their full extent.

If you have not been physically active for sometime a transitional plan to strengthen key muscle groups and increase movement range through stretching exercises is recommended. Always remember to start any workout or exercise session with a ten minute warm up. When you have finished exercising, take time to cool down for about ten minutes.

Muslim Superhero Comic Book to Make Superhero Comic
Its Debut
Comic book fans will soon be getting their first glimpse at an unlikely new superhero -- a Muslim boy in a wheelchair with superpowers.
The new superhero is the brainchild of a group of disabled young Americans and Syrians who were brought together last month in Damascus by the Open Hands Intiative, a non-profit organization founded by U.S.
