Help Keep Your Parks and Trails Clean

This time of year our parks and trails see a lot of action and that is exciting! Unfortunately, they also see a lot of trash and waste. The trash that is left behind at a shelter, in a dugout, on the trail or around a playground can pose a threat to you, the children who play there and our wildlife. This is where we need your help! When you are out in enjoying the parks and trails be sure to take a few extra seconds to make sure the area you have been using is, as the boy scouts would say, better than you found it. Here are a few tips for our parks dept.:

    • Shelters - If you rent or just use a shelter make sure all litter and food make it to the trash can. You never know what small hand (or beak) might pick it up and put it in their mouth
    • Dugouts - Coaches make sure your players last job of the day is to make sure the dugout is ready for the next team. Each area has a trash can, please make sure sports bottles, sunflower seeds and other trash go in the trash or with you! You never know when we have another team on their way.
    • Ponds & Lakes - If you love fishing, please help keep the shorelines clean too.  Remember to properly discard your used fishing line, bait containers, beverage containers and snack wrappers
    • Trails & Parks - There are trash receptacle's placed throughout our trails and parks, please wait to discard your waste until you find one. Remember we love our pets in the parks as much as you do, but we do not love their reminders so please clean-up after your pet as well!

We are always looking for groups to assist in park clean-up as well. If you have an interested group please visit our Volunteers in the Parks (VIP) page.

If we all take a second and make sure we are cleaning up after ourselves or lending an extra hand and cleaning up something left behind we will continue to be the City Beautiful - Olathe.
