SANTA MONICA, CA - Soka Gakkai International-USA's Culture of Peace Resource Center in Santa Monica will host a lecture with Nancy Pearlman, executive producer and host of the three-time Emmy-nominated television series ECONEWS. Ms. Pearlman will survey the lesser known environmental consequences of war experienced throughout history to the present day and offer practical ecological lifestyle solutions learned over the course of her forty years of environmental activism. The free lecture will take place on Saturday April 21 at 4:00pm in the SGI-USA Culture of Peace Resource Center (606 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica CA 90401). Free parking is available.Click here to download the press release.

"The fact that war causes horrible ecological damage demonstrates the importance of peace and environmental organizations working together to protect the earth's unique ecosystems," says Pearlman. "Wilderness and wild lands need preservation, cultural and historical monuments need protection, and the flora and fauna need parks and reserves to survive. In my talk, I will discuss the varied ways that war impacts the environment from the killing of endangered species in Rwanada and the poisoning of individuals and land with Agent Orange during the Vietnam War; to the influence of war on the nuclear energy debate and the rate of climate change impacting the lives of people from the Arctic Circle to the Pacific Islands."

"I am looking forward to hearing stories of ecological activism from Ms. Pearlman's forty years of extensive worldwide travels," say series organizer Ian McIlraith. "I am sure she will inspire attendees to empower themselves as protagonists for the Culture of Peace and take action to protect our Mother Earth."

The Culture of Peace Resource Center in Santa Monica is one of five centers in the United States opened by Soka Gakkai International-USA with the support of former United Nations Under-Secretary-General Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury.
