Dear Members of Unity Church,
Some of our leadership recently participated in the Healthy Congregations™ trainings offered by the Ballou Channing District (BCD), our district of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). This series, developed by the Healthy Congregations organization, trains lay-persons and ordained leaders to see congregations as emotional systems, and the critical role leaders play in determining the health of the system.
For our Annual Congregational Retreat this year, and in partnership with First Parish Church (UU) in Bridgewater, we are excited to tell you that we have arranged to hold two Healthy Congregations™ workshops, facilitated by Peter Bowden, an independent growth consultant engaged for the Ballou Channing District of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). These workshops will be held as follows:
Workshop 1: Leadership in the Healthy Congregation
Date: Wednesday June 6, 2012
Time: 6:30 pm social time, workshop at 7 pm to 9 PM
Place: Unity Church of North Easton, 13 Main St.
Description: Peter Bowden will provide an overview of "Leadership in Healthy Congregations". The workshop includes viewing the corresponding videos that use dramatizations to illustrate the degree to which our presence as leaders determine how well congregations navigate change.
Workshop 2: Mission, Vision, and the Coming Year
Date: Wednesday June 13, 2012
Time: 6:30 pm social time, workshop at 7 pm to 9 PM
Place: First Parish Church (UU), 50 School Street in Bridgewater
Description: In this evening session, Peter Bowden will lead exercises to ground us in mission, share visions for the future of our congregation(s), and help us articulate specific plans and action steps for the coming year. A combination of personal reflection, guided meditation, and small group work will result in 1) a collection of individually produced mission statements that may be used to advance the development and refinement of the congregation's official mission statement over the coming year, and 2) visions for the immediate future of the congregation. With this work completed, teams will work on specific planning for the coming year.
Our success as a church is always dependent upon the number of committed members who participate in planning for our future. We so count on a diversity of opinion about how we can continue to succeed, and hope you will join us in this important ministry!
