ADULT EDUCATION THIS SUNDAY Sally Brower will lead the adult forum in the Sanctuary this week. Her program is titled "The Spirituality of the Early Desert Monastics" The heart of desert spirituality transcends centuries and cultures. Through a media presentation of pictures and words, we will listen for the heartbeat of a spirituality that is both ancient and contemporary. We will explore the pilgrimage into self and God that makes the ancient desert mothers and fathers a living example to spiritual seekers today. Please grab a cup of coffee and join us in the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. To read upcoming topics for the winter and spring, please click here ADULT EDUCATION FOR JANUARY 15 God and Neuroscience - What does your brain look like on God? Consider this; the organizing principle of science declares that everything real can be measured. Can deep, meditative, mystic experiences that claim to be in touch with God, the Tao, Nirvana, the Unio Mystica be real (that is measured) or is it all in our brain? Join a discussion of this question based on the book "Why God Won't Go Away" in which the authors pose the hypothesis that the brain possesses a neurological mechanism for self-transcendence. WOW!! Peter May will lead this open discussion of our brains on God January 22nd at 9:30. Bring your brain, God will already be there. There are no dues or requirements to be a part of the group. If you enjoy the following: good books, good food, and good fellowship, please join us! Our group chooses books from secular best seller lists, secular book reviews and member suggestions. You are not even required to have finished or read the monthly selection to come to the meetings. We will share our opinions of the book and try to keep the ending a secret if we can! During the winter months, we will be meeting on the second Sunday afternoon of the month. If you are interested in joining, please contact the parish office (704) 663-5659 or speak with one of the following ladies; Rita Azali, Jan Lamm or Judy Willingham. PRESIDING BISHOP AT ST. MARTIN'S IN CHARLOTTE The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church will be at Saint Martin's in Charlotte on Sunday, January 22nd. She will preach, teach and celebrate the Eucharist that morning. You can read all of the details by clicking here. If you intend to go, please note that reservations will be required so Saint Martin's can adequately seat those in attendance. The Presiding Bishop's keynote address to Diocesan Convention will be available immediately following Convention at the end of the month. We will post it in the Weekly Remainders. CAN YOU HELP US WITH SOME LAUNDERING CHORES? Saint Patrick's has recently been blessed with new vestments for our acolytes. As a result, we would like to pass on our old vestments to a congregation in need. Ideally we would love to offer the vestments at the Diocesan Convention at the end of January. The vestments need to be cleaned before we hand them down. We are in need of volunteers who can take an armful of vestments home, launder them, and return them to the church. There are many of them - don't feel pressured to take them all but if a few people could take a load it would be greatly appreciated. We need to have them back within about 10 days so they can be prepared to go to convention and eventually a new home.
