Gang Free North Carolina Academy
 The Gang Free North Carolina Academy is geared towards those working with gang members who are not sworn law enforcement such as but not limited to Teachers, Social Workers, Principles, Parents, Juvenile Workers, Hospital Personnel, School Counselors, Court counselors, GAL, Volunteers, Mental Health Administrators, and anyone working juveniles
We will be holding our first annual GFNC Academy on August 14 - 16, 2012 at the Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons. The GFNC will run along side the Gangs Across the Carolinas 2012 Conference and will be held in the same hotel. Online registration will be coming soon and will be limited to the first 125 attendees. Region 3  Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office Meeting Dates: 1st Thursday of Every Month at 2:00 pm at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Academy City sees decades-low number of homicides (Charlotte, NC): Charlotte recorded fewer homicides in 2011 than any year in more than two decades as violent crime continued to decline in the city and across the nation. Chief of Albemarle PD wants to fight back against gang activity (Albemarle, NC): The chief of the Albemarle Police Department said gang activity is growing. He believes the murder of a teenager in November is gang-related. Now, he wants to transform his department to fight back. Graffiti is sign of gang activity in Mooresville (Mooresville, NC): Mooresville barbershop owner Anthony Gallo is always looking for ways to attract clients, but the signage on his business isn't exactly what he was thinking. One morning in November, Gallo found gang-related graffiti on three sides of his building. Police investigate Gastonia graffiti damage (Gastonia, NC): Gastiona police said seven businesses were tagged with graffiti damage over the weekend. Police: Beating, abduction part of gang initiation (Huntersville, NC):Huntersville police are searching for four men who allegedly kidnapped, beat, and robbed a man. Police said the violence that happened last month was part of a gang initiation, so Eyewitness News asked if gangs are becoming a bigger problem in Huntersville. |

Region 4  Meeting Dates: February 15th 2012 at 9:00 am at the Forsyth County Detention Center GREENSBORO - Thirteen alleged members of the Latin Kings gang have been indicted by a federal grand jury on racketeering charges. GREENSBORO - Gang leader Jorge "King Jay" Cornell and five of his alleged associates pleaded not guilty Tuesday to federal racketeering charges.
GIBSONVILLE, N.C. (WGHP)-
A suspected gang member who was wanted for allegedly stabbing his brother on Christmas Day has turned himself in to local authorities, according to a news release. Jose Gonsalo Flores, 27, turned himself in at the Gibsonville Police Department around 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Judge postpones Latin Kings trial (Greensboro, NC): A federal judge on Monday agreed to postpone the start of the trial for six Latin Kings members charged with racketeering until at least the beginning of March, citing the complexity and enormity of discovery material. Gang arrested for multiple break-ins in randolph county (Trinity, NC): Deputies said they not only stopped a burglary ring, they got four gang members off the street. Detectives with the the Randolph County Sheriff's Office said they have been investigating a string of break-ins in the northern part of the county. Investigators: Know the signs of gang activity (Greensboro, NC): Police say the state's gang population is steadily growing. Investigators say it will take a community effort to push them out of the state one by one. Greensboro Police say parents need to watch for signs of gang activity (Greensboro, NC):Police says gangs are operating in the Triad, parents need to recognize the signs. Officer Demorrise Anderson is with the Greensboro Police Department's gang unit. He says they even get calls from elementary schools that suspect students are involved in gang activity. |

Region 5  Fayetteville Police Department Meeting Dates: TBD Administration denies gang activity at West Bladen High School (Bladenboro, NC): In November, there was at least one fight on campus that some people suspected was gang related. Thursday night, the school board said that was not the case, but some parents still disagree. Cape Fear High was second highest in discipline problems in 2010-11 school year (Fayetteville, NC):Cape Fear High School, where a 15-year-old student was shot Monday, had the second-highest number of major discipline problems among Cumberland County high schools during the past school year, school records show. Cape Fear was tied for the most instances of gang activity with three such incidents. Jack Britt and Pine Forest also had three reports of gang activity. |

Meeting Dates: TBD Task force makes several gang-related arrests (Pitt County, NC): The Pitt County Gang Task Force makes seven arrests. Thursday's operation focused on people who had outstanding felony warrants or connections to areas known for gang activity. Gang violence investigated at William R. Davie Middle (Roanoke Rapids, NC): A fight between two William R. Davie Middle students resulted in one being taken to the hospital while charges are pending against the other. Greenville Gang Task Force summary (Greenville, NC): In response to the recent violent crime and gang related activity, the Greenville Police Department in cooperation with other county law enforcement agencies, implemented a Gang Task Force.
Greenville Gang Task Force makes arrests (Greenville, NC) : The new Greenville gang task force, formed in response to recent murder, other violent crimes, and gang activity, says it has arrested two people. Law enforcement agencies work together to get a handle on gang violence (Greenville, NC): Gunshots and the possibility of gang violence terrorizing one city in the east is the reason the city's chief organized a meeting with all agencies in the county to help fight the violence. Police chief forming task force (Greenville, NC): Greenville's police chief is forming a violent crime and gang task force and is planning to meet with apartment complex mangers and black community leaders to discuss how to stop a recent spate of violence among young black men. Kinston battles gang violence as Greenville heats up (Kinston, NC): Greenville is not the first city with gang problems here in the east. Nine on Your Side has been following Kinston's battle against gang violence for several months now. There are more than 500 known gang members within the city limits of Kinston.

Region 8 will be drawing a name every meeting for a sponsored slot to the 2012 Gangs Across the Carolinas Conference in Greensboro. Region 8 started the drawing at the last meeting and a detective from New Dern Police Department won the first slot. |
