HikeToNorthwood Hike To Northwood- Choose Your Scout (s) By April 1, 2012

The hike for the 75th Anniversary is a truly incredible and meaningful journey. Each of the Yankee Clipper Council Districts will be starting from a camp formerly operated by one of the predecessor Councils and be hiking the roughly 60 miles to Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation. By doing so, the hikers will be symbolically demonstrating how all of us came together and call Wah-Tut-Ca home.

The Northern Lights District will be starting from Lone Tree Scout Reservation. The Great Eastern District will be starting on the site of Norshoco Scout Reservation in Lyman, ME, and hike to Wah-Tut-Ca from there. The West Wind District will be starting from the site of Camp Chadwick in Dunstable, MA, and will hike from there to Camp Onway, where they will meet up with the hikers from the Northern Lights District. These two districts will hike together for the rest of the journey.

Troops and Crews can send up to three Scouts to hike the route. If a Troop sends more than one hiker, the route will be broken up into parts, and each Scout will hike for one leg of the journey of approximately 20 miles each. The hikers will not be required to hike with any personal gear, as all of the gear will be trucked to the next campsite during the day. Groups of Order of the Arrow and adult volunteers will be accompanying the hikes to set up and break down the sites, cook, and act as guides and medical staffers.

The Troops play an important role in the hike, as they are the ones that will select the hikers. The deadline for youth registrations has been set as April 1. Each Troop can choose their own methods for selecting hikers. Meetings for hikers, staff, and volunteers will begin in April.
