Welcome to Yankee Clipper Council BSA Summer Camping!
Greetings!
Scouting started with a weeklong camp out on Brownsea Island in 1907 and camping has been one of the most important parts of our program ever since. The benefits of an active outdoor program to a boy's physical fitness are clear.
What we're now learning is that time spent in outdoors and in positive interactions with other boys has far more benefits than we previously thought. Among other things, it can reduce stress and improve mood, it can have positive impacts on depression and ADHD, and it can improve social interactions. And with all of the talk of childhood obesity, the physical benefits shouldn't be overlooked. And with the warm weather approaching, what better way to get a good dose of the outdoors than summer camp?
The Yankee Clipper council is proud of offer some of the best summer camp opportunities in the area. Our Boy Scout resident camp at Wah-Tut-Ca has something for everyone from a first year Scout to seasoned campers and Scoutmasters. For boys looking for more leadership experience, Brownsea II, NYLT or our CIT program may be just the thing. We have six camping opportunities for Cub Scouts ranging from a relaxed weekend with the family to three different day camps to Camp So-Kee-Tay designed especially for a Webelos overnight experience.

Cub Camps Choose Themes!
One of the highlights of a Cub camp is the theme that runs through all of the activities for the week. Our camp directors are hard at work already and have already chosen their themes for the summer. At MoonRaker, Cubs will compete with the best in the world, or at least try to beat their personal best, with a week of activities based on the Olympics. COW participants will put themselves to the test a little differently as favorite video games come to life at a weekend of iCOW. At Lone Tree Day Camp get ready for a colorful week of cartoon characters at Destination: Animation |
On July 4, 1937 Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation opened its gates for Boy Scout camping adventures. 75 years later thousands of Scouts and leaders still live that adventure. Wah-Tut-Ca is 300 acres of amazing natural beauty located in Northwood NH. In 2012 the Yankee Clipper Council, Boy Scouts of America, shares the spirit and adventure of the Culture of Camping in 52 communities in Northeastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. The programs and events of Wah-Tut-Ca's 75th Anniversary celebrates the fun and significance of the outdoor camping program in the lives of children and young adults.

CUB CAMPING AT WTCSR & LTSR

It came to the attention of the Yankee Clipper Council Camping Committee that there was some outdated and incorrect information being passed around about Cub Scout use of winter cabins at Wah-Tut-Ca and Lone Tree. The Camping Committee's unanimous response is, "Let them camp!" At the December meeting, the camping committee reviewed the Guide to Safe Scouting and Form 13-508, the documents that govern Cub Scout Camping, and approved the following buildings for use by Cub Scouts year round: SACAWACAS, Pentucket, and Kiwanis as Lone Tree and Northbrook, Wannalancit and Kemosabee at Wah-TutCa. Your pack can make reservations by calling the office at 978-372-0591 or emailing Wendy Perez at wperez@bsamail.org. Don't forget that you'll still need to meet all of the Guide to Safe Scouting requirements for trained leadership and Youth Protection.

Why your son needs summer camp!
There was a time when children would go off on their bicycles and explore and play outdoors. All would be well if you were home by dinner and before the streetlights were on. Even after dinner it would be OK to sneak out and go to a field and look at the stars in the sky with your buddies. Now, at the beginning of the 21st century, family life has become different. In most cases both parents have jobs outside the home. Single parent households are common. Youth are more sedentary, and their lives are often ruled by a long list of programmed and scheduled activities. Most kids lack the outdoor experience. |
