The Hike To Northwood
HikeToNorthwood
The Hike To Northwood symbolically retraces the Journey of Scouts in the Yankee Clipper Council from many camping traditions to Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation. Each Scout Troop selects hikers to carry the flame from a historic location to Northwood. The hikers will travel about 60 miles over three days.

Each District in the Yankee Clipper Council is taking a different route symbolizing their journey to Wah-Tut-Ca. Scouts from the Great Eastern District will leave from Lyman, Maine at the site of Norshoco Scout Reservation. Scouts from the Northern Light District will leave from Lone Tree Scout Reservation in Kingston, NH. Scouts from the West Wind District will leave from the site of Camp Chadwick in Dunstable, MA.

Each hike is three days and each goes a distance of about 60 miles. Troops can select a Scout to do the entire trip or may select three Scouts to do one leg of the hike of about 20 miles.

Troops are free to determine their own method for selection of their Scout (s).

The Box THE BOX?
If you attended Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation in 2011 you heard the story. Apparently while building Wah-Tut-Ca in 1936-37 the reservation's founders discovered something significant. They felt that this discovery was too powerful to share with the world at that time. So they boxed it up and hid it knowing that it would be found 75 years later. That's exactly what happened. In 2011 camp staff members found clues that lead them to the box. The box had instructions that it not be opened until 2012. At OLD HOME Day on June 23, the box will be opened for the first time in three quarters of a century. Go to our face book page and give us your thoughts on what is in the box!

To earn this award units must complete their project by June 22, 2012. We encourage you too take photographs of your adventure which we will post on the 75th Anniversary site.

Whaleboat Returns To Wah-Tut-Ca
Whaleboat

It has been almost 50 years since a whaleboat has been moored to a Wah-Tut-Ca dock. Yet the memory of those days when Wah-Tut-Ca's pirates ruled Northwood Lake has not been forgotten. At least not forgotten by the Key Foundation.

For the last three years research has been done on the Wah-Tut-Ca Whaleboats. This research included examination of the wrecks of the old boats that  sit at the bottom of Northwood Lake. Using this history Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury is constructing the new boat based on the design of the originals.

The new boat will be named "The Craig Ryder", after the former Aquatics Director, Camp Director and Lodge Chief.

The Boat will hold 20 Scouts and can be powered by sail or oar. Starting in 2012, Scouts who visit Wah-Tut-Ca will once again have opportunities to be the "Pirates of Northwood Lake".

The Craig Ryder will be dedicated and officially launched at Old Home Day on June 23, 2012.
