Massachusetts Society
   Sons of the American Revolution

Dear Parents and Scout Leaders,

To help honor your new Eagle Scouts, we would be pleased to provide a commemorative certificate and letter of congratulations for them from our society without cost. As the leading men's organization of those that descend from the solders of the American Revolution, we are glad to recognize new Eagle Scouts for their outstanding accomplishment, their excellence, and their good citizenship.

We also invite the scout to apply for our Eagle Scout Scholarship with cash awards from $500 to $8000 each year (up to $14,000 total). The contest is offered through our state society in Massachusetts as well as our National Office in Louisville, Kentucky.

For nearly a century, we have enjoyed a close working relationship with the Boy Scouts of America. Our programs for the scouts were started by President Theodore Roosevelt, a distinguished member of the society and an ardent supporter of the scouting movement.

Please visit our website at eagle scout to request a certificate and for more information on how to apply for the scholarship. We look forward to hearing from you and your Eagle Scouts.

Sincerely,

Michael E Fishbein

President, The Massachusetts Society

2013 National Jamboree
JAMBORREEScouting's flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It's a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree.

Florida Seabase
Florida Sea Base

High Adventure on the Water

Troops and Crews looking for an exciting experience for those 14 and older, take a look at what one of the currently three, soon to be four BSA High Adventure Bases offer. From SCUBA, to a week on a sailboat, to kayaking to a remote island for snorkeling and fishing, Florida Sea Base offers a great week on the water. You can even start your trip in the Bahamas. With proper planning, getting spots at Seabase for troops and crews are very realistic. To get a sampling of what would be in store for your trip, go to Sea Base.

Seabase is accepting entries for their 2013 lottery, and has openings still for 2012.   Because of the extensive availability for units to get Seabase reservations, the Yankee Clipper Council does not normally request a council contingent, as we do for Philmont. However, if two adults (21 and over), would like to manage and recruit for a YCC trip for 2013, contact Craig at cmacpher@bsamail.org to get the "ball rolling."

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Scout Leader

PRESIDENT

"The Main Thing" - it is all about having as many children and young adults  as possible participating in a high quality program. That is why I am involved with the Boy Scouts program. Kids don't just walk in the door; quality programs for every child don't just happen. The 3,000+ adult leaders in our Yankee Clipper Council need to work together as a unified team to continue building a council that has the capacity to consistently deliver a high quality program to a growing number of kids.

So my question to you is "what are you doing to make sure that our Yankee Clipper Council succeeds at delivering its quality program to more and more young people? I assure you that being for "The Main Thing" is more fun - and more rewarding. Let me know at  CouncilPresident@YCCBSA.org if you are looking for an opportunity to show that you are for "The Main Thing".

2012 Recruitment Campaign Rolls out in November

AWESOME

Strong messages, powerful imagery, and fun scenarios are elements of the 2012 national recruitment campaign available in November. The "Badge of Honor" themed campaign proves that the memorable moments associated with earning a badge, hiking a trail, or hanging out with friends are an invaluable part of the journey to being Prepared. For Life.™

All recruiting materials will be in Spanish as well and will include fliers, online banners, posters, yard signs, and radio and TV PSAs. All marketing resources will be available on the Marketing Toolbox and Brand on Demand. The early rollout of these materials is aimed at helping council staffs prepare for membership growth conferences and for 2012 fall recruitment. Additionally, a 2012 membership packet will be mailed to local councils in November.

PROJECT POPCORN
POPUP  From Indiana, Pennsylvania and Florida they came, one by one, wheels thundering and with just few calls for directions, they came, four of them full of popcorn. It was everywhere, more popcorn than you could imagine 136 pallets full of it. Breaking it down into orders for 124 packs, troops and crews seemed like a daunting task indeed, but with the help of some very dedicated volunteers and professional staff it was accomplished in short order. All was set, as units from around the council came to pick up their popcorn and on September 30th Project Popcorn was underway!

Special thanks go out to Tom Weiser and Advanced Delivery Systems our host warehouse, Brodie Toyota Lift of Lawrence and J&H Automotives of Ipswich for lending us pallet jacks, our sorting crew of Arnie Sheltra, Steve McGovern, Tom Kubik and Kelly Bennett, our evening warehouse crew of Rob Sarkisian, Stephen Moriarty and Ian Moriarty, my fellow professionals Kevin Nichols, Tom Bringle and Craig MacPherson. Biggest thanks go out to our Unit Popcorn Kernels and their Scouts who make this all happen to help support their unit programs and our council programs as well.

A repeat performance will occur on November 30th.

INTERNET RECHARTERING

Internet Rechartering is a Web-based method for units to renew their charters from any online location.  Units will love this new method; it's easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information yourself!

Here's how it works: the Council has an Internet Rechartering page with instructions and a link to the software.  The unit receives its charter renewal packet as usual, only now the packet includes information for Internet Rechartering, including an access code especially for the unit.  The unit selects an adult to complete the online process. This renewal processor uses the access code to log onto the Internet Rechartering Web site, selecting to start the process with current ScoutNET data or data from unit-management software. At any time, the renewal processor can suspend the electronic rechartering process and return later to the last completed screen.

The system lets you enter new members, renew current members, and update information for any registrant.  When completed, the new unit roster is submitted to ScoutNET and a Unit Charter Renewal Report Package is printed. This package includes the unit charter application. Acquire the signatures for the application and send it, the rest of the package, any new youth and adult applications, and all fees to the council.

There's also a link to a tutorial and help section. Check it out-we think you'll like the design. All BSA policies are enforced throughout the system, so what you enter is sure to meet all requirements.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE

2011 CORI Request Form Information

The Yankee Clipper Council and the Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. We also take great pride in the quality and privileges of being a BSA leader. The quality of the program and the safety of our youth members call for high-quality adult leaders and we work closely with our chartered organizations to help recruit the best possible leaders for their units.

Commonwealth of Massachusetts state law mandates the Yankee Clipper Council to re-CORI all adult volunteers every three years. Our three-year cycle date is upon us. All registered volunteers will be required to submit a new CORI request form and provide a copy of both sides of a government-issued photographic ID with renewal registration beginning this fall. This data will help to ensure that an accurate background check is done by eliminating any guesswork about people with similar names, addresses and birth dates.

Click here  for more information and click on form to access a fill-able PDF copy of Yankee Clipper Council's CORI request form. Copies are also available at the Council Service Center.

Northern Light Winter Camporee;

Jan 27-29 Lone Tree Scout Reservation

SledboyMinute to Win It comes to the Northern Light District January 2012. Brought to you by the Northern Light Boy Scout Activities gurus, this Jan 28th event will challenge patrols with skills that are fast paced, and progressively more challenging (and consequently more rewarding).  Patrols will proceed through a series of station games and meet the challenge presented in sixty seconds or less. After the attempt, the patrol will move on through the entire series...but after one full round a patrol can retry any challenges that were not successful. In subsequent rounds if a patrol was successful, they can return to that station for a challenge of increasing difficulty (still sixty seconds or less) and add to their score.

The actual events all take place on Saturday, Jan 28th. However troops are welcome to come and spend either Friday or Saturday night or both winter camping. Information and registration will be posted on doubleknot and placed in the troops folders in the Round Table files.
