New Award Honoring Local Artist
to be Presented at Wickford Art Association
Watercolor and Oil Exhibit on May 20
Wickford, RI---To inspire and recognize creativity among watercolor and oil painters, a new annual award will be presented at the Wickford Art Association's Watercolor and Oil Exhibit on May 20.
The "Most Creative Award" is being sponsored by the family of Daphne Henderson, a long-time member and former president of the WAA, to honor her lifetime career in art. Mrs. Henderson is a North Kingstown resident and has been involved in fine arts for more 40 years.
"We are delighted to present this award that honors one of our members and also encourages other artists to stretch their creative limits," says Pam Reed, president of the WAA.
Mrs. Henderson focuses primarily on water media but has also worked extensively in acrylic, ink, pastel and collage. She has won numerous awards for her work from a variety of art organizations and in juried shows throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Rocky Mountain Region. At 87, Mrs. Henderson continues to paint with the same enthusiasm and life-long goal---to produce work that is both creative and original.
The Watercolor and Oil Exhibit is an open juried show running from May 18 through June 3 at the WAA Gallery at 36 Beach Street, Wickford, RI. Artists who wish to enter the show must register and bring their work to the gallery by May 16. The Daphne Henderson Most Creative Award is an annual cash award and certificate.
