Welcome to EAMO News #59
The Nursery:

Finally we are getting closer to finishing the Nursery. We have been building this house for over 3 years now. Funds have been the reason why it has taken soooo long. Recently, we finished the windows, the ceilings and the tiling of the whole floor. The verandah is just awaiting the railings now and then the kids will be riding their little bikes up and down on it. We only need to finish the painting and the plumbing  and its move in time!! Here is the latest pictures.

Promotional Trip to the USA and the UK:

In February we were invited for an interview on the Hope Channel "Really Living" program in Southern California. So we wasted no time in getting flights and off we went. The interview was excellent and will be screening this month. We will update you next week at what time it will be viewed in your area.

We stayed with various friends in the Loma Linda/Redlands area. Thank you all so much for opening your homes to us.

Whilst in this area we were able to do some promotion in various Churches and in homes. We also got the opportunity to travel to Fresno to stay with new friends. We had a great time promoting there and receiving some good support.

On the way home, we stopped in the UK and stayed with more friends of EAMO. They really looked after us and helped us to further promote EAMO there. Recently, we secured a family of sponsors in Scotland so we travelled up to a place called Oban in the Scottish Highlands to meet with our new friends and supporters. They had a public meeting arranged for us and many "talks" in local schools. We all had a lot of fun teaching Scottish children about Kenya and its huge needs.

Again, we have to say thank you to all of you that went out of your way to transport, house and feed May and I while we were there. We really enjoyed our time with you all. And thank you too for giving us exposure to promote EAMO.

Our Next Promotional Trip:
This year is our year for promotion. We have decided because of our growth in the number of children that we are now caring for, and the dozens of orphaned children that are on the waiting list to live at EAMO, we need to get out and promote this year as much as we can.
First stop will be arranged meetings in the UK and then onto the ASI meeting in Sacramento California. This meeting is a huge meeting that will give us exposure to thousands of people in the one place over a 4 day period. We will be in the UK in July and in the US in August, so if anyone would like us to come to there area for a meeting, please let us know asap so as we can begin arranging now.
We will also be back in Australia in October for more arranged meetings, so if anyone would like us to visit them anywhere in Australia, please let us know asap.

The New Boys Dormitory Project:

Just one two day visit from a lady that was travelling on a Gecko's Safari has made such a huge difference to EAMO School. In fact when the lady visited, we only had EAMO Primary School, there was no High School here at all. All our High School students were attending a local public school. But when Angelique, from Canada came, that was to change. Angelique went home with a burden to raise funds amongst her workmates at the big corporation she worked at. Angelique came back to EAMO almost one year later with 16 new sponsors and $8,000 in cash !!! That was only the beginning, Angelique went home again and raised another $10,000 for two more classrooms. It amazing what one person can do :)

A Better World, from Alberta Canada has announced that they will be providing funds for us to build the much awaited and needed boys dormitory. A Better World, has so far built our girls dormitory, assisted with our water borehole, bought us farming equipment, assisted with funds for our "famous" grass roofed dining hall and are paying for our teachers salaries each year. We are sooo thankful to A Better World for there continual support of EAMO.

EAMO and its own builders will be constructing this dormitory under the managment of Rob Carson from Western Australia. Rob is taking time off his busy schedule to come and be the Project Manager for this job. We are looking forward to Rob arriving in the next few weeks and construction getting under way. The current boys dorm is busting at the seems, so we are all looking forward to the opening day.

Canadians and More Canadians:

We have been blessed over the past 4 weeks to have over 50 Canadians come and visit the EAMO children.

The first group were 29 Students, teachers, sponsors and other guests from the Parkview Adventist Academy class of 2011. This group taught, played and even planted beans with our children. They had a wonderful time and so did all the EAMO children.

You can see stories, pictures and even video taken by the group and posted on the "A Better World" website. Here is the links for the days they spent at EAMO.

Finally, we say a big thank you to Eric Rajah, the Rosdale Valley Strings, the Central Alberta Home School Choir, the 29 students from Parkveiw Adventist Academy and all the parents, the teachers and anyone else involved in these groups coming to EAMO to take time out of their busy schedules to come and spend precious time on the other side of the world to be with some of the greatest kids in Kenya.

Thanks you all soooo much, we will never forget what you have done for us.

Agriculture:

Its planting time now, so we have planted 13 acres of wheat, which will provide enough wheat for the kitchen for the next 12 months.

We have also planted 5 acres of maize corn (the ingrediant from the Kenyan staple and traditional dish, Ugali) This also will be enough for our kitchen for the next 12 months.

Beans are also a staple, so we have planted 4 acres which will not be enough for the year. We consume 100 x 90kgs bags of beans each year. So we will be growing more beans later in the year though drip irrigation. We are also growing 2 acres of Millet.

Our #2 hot house (out of 3) has been planted with 1,100 tomato plants which we have already started harvesting. We normally harvest up to 800 kgs of tomatoes each week.

Hot house #1 will be planted with Cauliflower, Broccoli, Capsicum and Cucumber.

Hot house #3 will be planted with 1,100 tomato plants next month.

At certain times through the year we have been able to grow up to 70% of the vegetables used in our Kitchen.

Notice to all Sponsors:

We know all of you sponsors must be eagerly awaiting your new sponsorship update about your sponsor child/children. Megan (Volunteer from Adelaide, Australia) will be arriving here again at the end of May to do an update on every child here at EAMO.

Megan has committed herself to coming to EAMO once a year just to see all the EAMO children that she has a love for, and to spend time in our office to do all the updates on every child.

Thank you sooooo much Megan for this sacrifice.

Finally, both May and I just want to say a big thank you to all of you. All your contributions, whether large or small, have all contributed to what we all know as "East African Mission Orphanage" where over 200 Kenyan children are being cared for in a special way that they all deserve.
Thank you all sooo much for making it possible for us to put Smiles of these Kids Faces.

Comment from a visitor when we had only 150 kids:

"EAMO was a beautiful orphanage. At EAMO, there were 150 abandoned children. This orphanage offers a safe place where children can grow up with adequate nutrition, schooling and care. I believe that these kids are taken care of in a beautiful way. They take care of each other and support one another. They are incredibly happy to be in a safe, nurturing environment such as EAMO.

The children from EAMO are the most caring and strong willed children I have ever met. When visitors arrive, the kids greet them with love, smiles and open arms. Their beautiful faces melt our hearts and these children will stay with me forever.

EAMO orphanage has every resource these kids could ever want. They provide beautiful dormitories for these children to sleep in, they provide education for all of their children, they give them 3 healthy meals and have safe drinking water. These children live in a beautiful nurturing environment".
