9 Days in Mombasa: | |
Not one of our 200+ children have ever seen the Ocean. In fact most of them have not even been to Nairobi, which is only 2 hours drive away.
So you could imagine the excitment when a plan that had been in the making for 2 years finally came about. It was 3am one Sunday morning when the EAMO bus, already loaded up with tents, sleeping bags, food, water just a few hours before, drove out the gates of EAMO with all our High School kids, 22 in number, on what would end up being a 1600 kilometre round trip.
But this was nothing compared to the faces of these children, when they saw the Indian Ocean for the very first time.
A special big thank you goes to the Watson family in Melbourne for making a huge sacrafice and buying us the EAMO bus.

Training Future EAMO Office Staff:
EAMO is always in need of office help. Many of you would already know this as it often takes some time for us to get back to you !!!
Sometimes we have volunteers come and help us in the office, but its usually for only 2 weeks and then their gone. So we decided that its time to start training some of our talented girls that are currently in 3rd Form High School. When these kids finish school, they will know how to run an office, and especially the EAMO office.
The picture here shows Monica and Emily learning with a typing tutor.
The girls are really enjoying learning.

When School Is Over:
| |
Some children we have had with us for over 12 years. In particular, there is Daniel, Hassan and Elijah or Kim as we all call him. These three boys (or should I say Men) have now finished High School. Both Hassan and Kim are hopeful to be going to off to University to study their favorite subject Electical. Hassan wants to do Electrical Engineering, while Kim wants to do Aeronautical Engineering. High hopes we know, but we are currently looking at ways that they can acheive their goals, EAMO is all about changing peoples lives, and we dont just stop when the child finishes High School. Daniel, just loves watching things grow. So he is hoping to go off to Agricultural School to learn everything her can, so he can grow all the food that our kitchen requires on the EAMO campus.
The pictures below show the three boys (Men) doing some practical training first. Hassan is getting work experiance at our daughters Cafe, Kim is now working as a stand in teacher at the EAMO School and Daniel, is in charge of all vegetables and grain grown on the EAMO acres for the kitchen where there we feed over 230 hungry mouths each day. Well done MEN !!!!

Another Building Completed:
Just one two day visit from a lady that was travelling on a Gecko's Safari has made such a huge difference to EAMO School. In fact when the lady visited, we only had EAMO Primary School, there was no High School here at all. All our High School students were attending a local public school. But when Angelique, from Canada came, that all changed. Angelique went home with a burden to raise funds amongst her workmates at the big corporation she worked at. Angelique came back to EAMO almost one year later with 16 new sponsors and $8,000 in cash !!!
Angelique handed it all to me and asked if we could put this money towards the finishing of the swimming pool, I said, Ang, we really desperatly need our own High School. She said go ahead. So EAMO added $2,000 to the $8,000 and built what we call Form 1 and 2. Angelique went back to work and showed video footage of the buildings and was able to raise another $10,000 from the "Choquette Family Foundation" for construction of Form 3 & 4 classrooms!!!
This is an amazing story of what one person can do is it not?
The picture here, shows the Form 3 & 4 building finished, except for the painting.
Thank you sooooo much Angelique from all of us here at EAMO.
Now, to finish this High School off, all we need is another $10,000 to build two more rooms, for the Laboritory (Microscopes donated already) and the Library and Computer room.

Projects at EAMO: | |
We always have projects here at EAMO that need funding. Most of these projects are financed by people that have visited EAMO. Some projects that have been completed so far, from either generous individuals, families or corporations are:
Purchase of the EAMO property, dining hall, agricultural equipment, water borehole, girls dormitory, 28 seat bus, just to name a few.
The projects that we need funding for now are:
- Boys dormitory: $70,000 (Actually, this Dorm is costing over $120,000. $60,000 has already been raised. We are just waiting upon someone to come up with the balance to "partner" with the organisation that has already made the commitment).
- Games & Multi Purpose Room: $30,000
- Primary School Teachers Salaries: $900 per month
- Secondary School Teachers Salaries: $800 per month
- Library/Lab/Computer Room: $10,000
- Playground: ?
- Finishing of Swimming pool: ?
- Agricultural Drip Line: $4,000
These are just a few projects that are in need now, so if you, or someone you know can help on any of these projects, please contact us on eam@africaonline.co.ke
Tax receipts can be arranged. |

Comment from a visitor when we had only 150 kids:
"EAMO was a beautiful orphanage. At EAMO, there were 150 abandoned children. This orphanage offers a safe place where children can grow up with adequate nutrition, schooling and care. I believe that these kids are taken care of in a beautiful way. They take care of each other and support one another. They are incredibly happy to be in a safe, nurturing environment such as EAMO.
The children from EAMO are the most caring and strong willed children I have ever met. When visitors arrive, the kids greet them with love, smiles and open arms. Their beautiful faces melt our hearts and these children will stay with me forever.
EAMO orphanage has every resource these kids could ever want. They provide beautiful dormitories for these children to sleep in, they provide education for all of their children, they give them 3 healthy meals and have safe drinking water. These children live in a beautiful nurturing environment".
