Greetings!

All of us here at TDE hope you are enjoying a relaxing, holiday weekend as you sit and read this message.

In this issue Dr. Reinertsen shares a personal story about the importance of maintaining dental health. We've also included an article to remind you to use your dental benefits before the end of the year. Crazy to be thinking about 2013 already but it's just around the corner.

P.S. Have a great weekend! Our office will be closed on Labor Day, September 3rd and will re-open on September 4th.

"85 And Going Strong!"

 Dr. Chuck Tavares Dentist

My dad plays the cornet, not to be confused with the trumpet. Very close, but a mellower sound. To play a brass instrument well takes good dental structures. There is pressure put on the lips in front of your teeth and if you don't have the right support you can't hit the notes. Teeth are very important for playing some musical instruments.

Since I graduated dental school in 1979 mom and dad became instant patients. They both followed my advice on dental care. One time dad did something stupid, just like every one of us have done. He tried opening a glue bottle with his front teeth. It broke both front teeth. We were able to restore these teeth with porcelain crowns, making them the exact shape he had before. The shape of the teeth is very important for playing the cornet. There were several slight adjustments, but the end result was very successful.

Dad has come in for his regular examinations and cleanings faithfully and has excellent home care. Other than the front two teeth, he has needed very little

additional dentistry. Prevention is the key.

"If you can't afford Prevention, how could you ever afford Treatment?" Preventive Dentistry can help save you more than money. It will also save you time and help avoid pain. This is in addition to helping maintain your enjoyment of life.

Please check out this YouTube video of dad and his friend playing their horns at: Playing Horns Dad is the one with the Colonel Sanders beard. 85 and going strong!

Without proper dental care, playing a cornet would not be possible. Maybe you don't play a musical instrument. Most people don't. But keeping your mouth healthy and disease free will help add to the enjoyment of life. That's a promise!

"Check Losing Money Off Your List!"

Did you know every year millions of dollars of dental insurance benefits go unused. That's just like throwing money out the window. If you have dental benefits provided to you by your employer or if you purchase insurance on you own behalf, this is the time to plan to use your available benefits for 2012.

Most insurance plans renew at the beginning of the new calendar year. If you don't use the benefits for the year, you lose them. You may be fortunate to have a policy that has roll-over benefits, even so, don't be lulled into procrastinating on your dental work. There's usually only a portion that is available the next year. Check your policy for specifics.

So remember the old fillings or the broken down tooth that either the doctor or hygienist talked about with you at your last visit that you didn't get around to scheduling? We know that everyone's busy and maybe it's just slipped your mind.

With the kids back in school, parents getting back into the regular routine, and our friendly, part-time winter residents coming back to Florida, this is a perfect time to get that needed treatment completed. Before you know it, the holidays will be here. Don't wait until the end of the year to schedule your treatment and to take advantage of the benefits you have available. We are here to help you with your health as well as maximizing your benefits.
