Q:  Is there such a thing as a "white" LED?  

 

A: Good question.  LED's actually come in only 4 colors; red, blue, green and amber.  To create a "white" looking LED, most manufacturers use one of the following methods:   

1) they use a blue chip and cover it with a  yellow phosphorus coating or;  

2) place red, blue, and green LEDs in close proximity to each other.
It is a delicate balance that must be performed identically each time.  This is why it is so important when purchasing LED's to go with a reputable company.
