From the Executive Director...

We are in full swing for summer here at the Heritage Farmstead Museum! Our summer is beginning after a great spring; school tour groups visited everyday to experience farm life at the turn of the century in Plano. Our parlor and vegetable gardens have seen a lot of new planting, and growth and we are very excited about our new sprinkler system in the parlor garden. Also, our volunteer gardeners extraordinaire are currently working on a pamphlet with information about all the flowers and plants around the Farmstead for our visitors. We also had an amazing group of volunteers from Chase Oaks Church that painted the visitor center and re-roofed the area between the visitor center and collection building.

This summer get ready for our 2nd Annual Friends of the Farmstead Music Fest and Benefit. Enjoy live music, good food and company, and Texas Hold'em all while raising awareness and funds for: heritage preservation, collection and education. We hope you will enjoy our three summer camp options: Creek Camp, Pioneer Camp, and Curator Camp and take advantage of our After-Camp Care programs for your little ones. Mark June 23rd on your calendar for the 125th Birthday Bash for the Plano Fire Department at the Farmstead; it will be a day you won't want to miss. Also, be sure to look into Collin County's Carry-Along Collin Camps where the HFM is hosting "Lets Get 'Moo'ving" July, 17th.

Finally, we have begun our summer guided tour hours for the Museum. From May 30th to September 1st, our docent-guided tours of the Farrell-Wilson House and out buildings will begin at 10:30am Tuesday through Saturday; and 1:30pm on Sunday. We hope you will enjoy the Heritage Farmstead Museum this summer whether it be for our camps, events, volunteering, or all of the above!

Carry-Along Collin Goes to Camp

This award winning program, sponsored by the Collin County Historical Commission, invites students to discover local history. Materials and activities for 2012 will focus on the farming communities that thrived throughout Collin County.

The Heritage Farmstead Museum is one of many participating museums in this program. The HFM program, "Let's Get 'Moo'ving!" (Tuesday, July 17, from 10:00am to 12:00pm) features the importance of Dairy to the Farmer. Campers will be introduced to Buttermilk, a life-sized mechanical cow, churn butter, and finish their adventure with a wagon ride.

2012 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
We hope everyone enjoyed their time at the Volunteer Appreciation Lucheon last week. We had 50 people attend the event with lunch provided by: Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, McAlister's Deli, and Chick-fil-A. New and old volunteers got a chance to meet each other, and a few exchanged new ideas about their interests at the Farmstead. If you missed the luncheon, no worries! We will host another appreciation luncheon at the end of the year in December; so keep an eye out for that later in the year.

Another Great Year for HFM! School House
The Heritage Farmstead Museum received another great auditor's report from Auerbach Albert & Gold, L.C. They stated, "In our opinion, the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects the financial position of the Associaction."

This accredits our Association with financial responsiblity that further instills trust in the community, the City of Plano and helps support our mission. We are an organization that strives everyday to provide meaninful relationships with the community by inspiring awareness, dicourse, and learning through the interpretation of the North Texas blackland prairie history.
