Meet Our Providers

Dr. SalazarIn each issue of the newsletter we introduce you to one of the Health Center's team members who provide the quality care and personal compassion that is a hallmark of our center.

Dr. Yorvska Salazar of Bristow, Virginia, is the Health Center's Behavioral Health Director. Dr. Salazar has years of hands-on clinical experience to help our patients manage issues ranging from anxiety and depression to substance abuse, trauma and major life transitions. She is skilled at working with children and adults as well as individuals and families.

Dr. Salazar said the Health Center focuses on "behavioral health" versus "mental health" by identifying unhealthy, dysfunctional habits, then helping a patient learn skills to become more functional and healthy.

Raising Funds at Chips4Charity

In late October, more than 300 people attended an enjoyable evening of games and entertainment--all while supporting the Health Center. Lake Ridge Rotary and Woodbridge Rotary joined with the Health Center to co-host Chips4Charity at Harbour View Event Center in Woodbridge.

"It was a fun evening for everyone who attended," said Health Center Executive Director Frank J. Principi. "Best of all, proceeds from Chips4Charity will help meet the needs of local residents-providing health care to uninsured children, serving families during emergencies or natural disasters, helping victims of child abuse and domestic violence, providing scholarships for at-risk youth, and more."

The evening include a variety of table games, a silent auction, live music by Kitty and the Fat Cats, dancing, plus numerous prizes and raffles. Many local businesses sponsored the event while others donated to our silent auction.

National Health Center
Week Focused on Patient Care

The Health Center commemorated National Community Health Center Week in mid-August with a variety of free programs and activities. Nearly 200 area residents took advantage of free health screenings, educational sessions and tours. Many learned about the Health Center and have chosen us their medical home.

The free screenings included mammograms in partnership with the University of Virginia Mammogram Van; vision and hearing screenings in partnership with the Lake Ridge Lions Club; as well as ADHD, dental and primary care screenings by our own providers. We also offered information about healthy eating, a presentation on healthy lifestyles by RealFit Center of Amerigroup, and free car seat distribution for 30 low-income families through our partnership with Northern Virginia Family Service.

National Community Health Center Week is an annual celebration which highlights the role of facilities like the Health Center in providing affordable, high quality, health care to all people, regardless of income.
