From The Director
In March, we enter the transition between winter and spring, between a period of hibernation and a season of growth and change. This transition period is a busy time at the Health Center because we typically experience a significant increase in new patients, even as our established patients still seek our care.
This year will be different! Given the launch last summer of our new Prenatal, Dental, and Behavioral Health Practices, we anticipate even greater demand for these services as spring approaches. The demand for affordable access to integrated and coordinated health care for uninsured families in this area continues to soar - as it should. We have too many unhealthy families in our community without a health care home. READ MORE>

Meet Our Providers
Dr. Jill Adams, our Dental Director, serves a growing patient base of adults and children. A graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry, Dr. Adams balances a thorough approach to dental care with her warm, gentle personality. She makes sure that her patients not only understand what the procedure is but also how and why it will be completed. Having worked previously at a community health center in Indiana, Dr. Adams was the perfect provider to launch the Health Center's dental practice when it opened in 2010.
"The Health Center is a great place to be treated, and the equipment is just excellent," said Dr. Adams. "Our dental team is very friendly. We take our time to make sure everything is just the way we like it so we provide good, quality care for our patients." |

Lunch and Learn for Health Center Team
To keep pace with the ever-changing world of health care, the Health Center has launched the"Lunch and Learn" development series for its employees. Every month, the team will gather for a lunch session on key issues and topics relevant to their job at the Health Center. Executive Director Frank Principi calls the sessions "an investment in our staff's professional development."

During the March Lunch and Learn session, Virginia Senator George Barker provided an update on the status of health care reform in Virginia, specifically action taken during the recent General Assembly session. Other sessions planned for 2012 include:
- cultural competency,
- interpreter/translator training,
- health records,
- organization and time management,
- basic life support
- CPR, and
- refresher training on key regulation

Grant Funds Mean
Healthier Lives for Our Patients
Three recent grant awards to the Health Center, totaling $265,000, will help advance our mission of providing access to health care for everyone in the Greater Prince William Area regardless of age, income or insurance status.
The Campbell Hoffman Foundation of McLean, Virginia, has awarded the Health Center a $200,000 grant. These funds will help ensure access to integrated and coordinated health care for uninsured families in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park. The grant funds will be used to support our prenatal and primary care practices, particularly to subsidize the cost of care for uninsured patients, contribute to staff salaries and purchase needed clinical equipment and supplies. When You Wake Up Sick....Walk In
It isn't like a business meeting - you can't schedule when you or your family members will get sick. That's why the Health Center is now offering walk-in service for those days when you or your kids wake up feeling under the weather. Here's how it works:
- Walk-in service is provided every Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
- Care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Priority is given to sick visits.
- For best service, walk-in patients are encouraged to arrive when the Health Center doors open at 8 a.m. and register for walk-in care.
- Come to the Health Center for walk-in service as walk-ins are not scheduled by phone.
The Health Center's affordable fees apply to all visits, including walk-in patients. |

Health Center Prepares for
Growing Number of Medicaid Patients
Health care reform means increased access to health care for people all across the country, including in the Greater Prince William Area. Many of those new patients will be children and low-income families who could qualify for Medicaid. At the Health Center, we expect to serve twice as many Medicaid patients by 2014 when health care reform provisions take full effect.
Fortunately, the Health Center is well-prepared to serve Medicaid patients. Our on-site Care Link Specialists provide comprehensive assistance for families who may be eligible for free health insurance through FAMIS, Virginia's health insurance program for children, or FAMIS Plus, which is Virginia's Medicaid program. Our specialists have enrolled more than 560 children and pregnant women in these programs, helping them gain access to quality health care - perhaps for the first time in their lives.
Our team helps families complete the FAMIS application process, assists them in compiling verification documents, monitors their enrollment status and assists eligible families in choosing a primary care physician. The assistance from our Care Link Specialists makes the enrollment process much less daunting for local families.
