News from Evangelist Mike Gendron
October  2012
Greetings in the Name of Jesus,

We have heard a variety of opinions from Christians on the upcoming elections. Some are saying they will not vote because they cannot go against their conscience and vote for a Muslim or a Mormon. Others are saying they would rather have a Muslim, who professes to be a Christian, than a Mormon in the White House. Where do you stand on this important issue? It is important to realize we are not voting for a pastor or spiritual leader, but a president. Therefore, we should not base our vote on their personal theology but on the way they will govern our country. When we contrast Governor Mitt Romney's philosophy of government with Obama's, we have to ask which philosophy upholds biblical values more consistently? Clearly, their policy positions are diametrically opposed to one another.

We also have to examine the contrasting positions taken by the candidates' two parties concerning the issues of abortion and same-sex marriage. Just 16 years after president Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) into law, (defining marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman), a Democratic president is working earnestly for its repeal. President Obama has ordered his Attorney General not to defend DOMA in the Federal courts. On the other hand, the Republican party declares: "We affirm our support for a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman."

On the issue of abortion, the opposing views could hardly be more polarized. The Republican platform declares, "we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed." The Democratic platform states: "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."

As Christians we must go into the voting booth fully aware of these vitally important differences. Our God and Creator instituted the covenant of marriage to be between one man and one woman as a picture of the convenant relationship between Christ and His Bride, the Church. Christians must remember that God is the Giver of life which begins at conception. Every human life is sacred and created in the image of God. Those who are planning to vote for a president who refuses to take a stand against the slaughter of unborn babies by abortion and for the sanctity of marriage should listen to this message. May God help us pursue righteousness and justice and vote for those who do the same.
Pope Asks Mary to Inspire Muslims
Pope Benedict ended his last speech in Lebanon with this invocation to Our Lady on behalf of all Lebanese, Christians and Muslims. "The Virgin Mary, venerated with devotion and tenderness by the faithful of the religious confessions, is a sure model for going forward in hope along the path of authentic brotherhood. Lebanon understood this well when, some time ago, she proclaimed March 25 as a holiday, thus allowing everyone to live, more deeply, their unity in serenity. May the Virgin Mary, whose ancient shrines are so numerous in your country, continue to accompany and inspire you!" The Lebanese population is made up of 39 percent professing Christians and 60 percent Muslims. Read more.
Pope Denies the Resurrection of the Body
In his best known book on systematic theology entitled Introduction to Christianity, the current pope, Joseph Ratzinger, explicitly denies the resurrection of the body. He wrote: "It now becomes clear that the real heart of faith in the resurrection does not consist at all in the idea of the restoration of bodies, to which we have reduced it in our thinking; such is the case even though this is the pictorial image used throughout the Bible."

By denying the fundamental biblical truth of the resurrection of the body, the pope is in serious error for not knowing "the Scriptures, nor the power of God" (Matt. 22:29). It is a grave heresy, whose tendency is to "overthrow the faith of some" (2 Tim. 2:18). We know "He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you" (Rom. 8:11). Read more.
 Letters from Around the World

I heard you on the Brannon Howse radio show and was sad to hear many untruths about the Catholic church. You spewed out typical Protestant misunderstandings of Catholic teaching and practices - without illustrating any real understanding of or experience with true Catholicism. I could sense a close-mindedness and hardness of heart. I will pray that you will open your heart and mind to the fullness of Christian truth and unity found in Catholicism. An honest, humble and prayerful investigation of Catholic Christianity reveals it to be the way God wants us to believe the Gospel. I have repented of every sin I have committed and will hopefully repent of every sin I commit. Besides repenting, Catholics must also confess their sins, receive absolution and make reparation for their sins. David

Dear David,
God calls us to repent and believe His Gospel which is fully contained in Scripture (Mark 1:15, 1 Cor. 15:1-3). When God grants you repentance, you will never try to make reparation for your sins again because the redemption of your soul is costly, and you should cease trying forever (Psalm 49:8). My 34 years as a Catholic were very devout, which included serving 7 years as an altar boy, receiving the Ad Altare Dei award for religious service as an Eagle Scout, teaching High School Catholic Christian Doctrine (CCD) and bringing the first Little Rock Scripture Study to a Dallas Catholic Church in 1981. When God delivered me out of spiritual darkness into the glorious light of His Son, I exchanged my religion for an eternal relationship with my Lord and Savior. As I abided in His Word, He set me free from all the religious deception of Catholicism. He also set me free from the devil who had been holding me captive to do his will (2 Tim. 2:24-26). I pray you will begin abiding in God's Word, submit to its authority and trust Christ and His Word instead of the Pope and his traditions.

Dear Mike,
Your radio interviews started showing up in my life right when I needed information the most. I'd been praying about leaving the Catholic church for quite a long time. My mother always told me that it was the "one true church" but I wanted God to help me with this decision. That's when your interviews started showing up on the radio. I was thrilled that somebody with your credentials could explain the difference between the Catholic dogma and what the Bible was saying. You are, without a doubt, the person I look forward to hearing the most on the radio, tv or internet. Thank you for being there. Thank you for all that you are doing to help Catholics understand what the truth is. Looking forward to more of your interviews on Crosstalk and World View Weekend. After seeing your Facebook page that you had been to my home town and to Calvary Bible Church I was thrilled that they posted your message on video. I'd been looking for side by side comparisons of the differences between the Catholic teachings and the Bible. It was a really big help to me. I'm now working on my older brother who is a firm believer in the Catholic Church. I just sent him the link and I'm praying that he will watch it. I will keep you in my prayers for our Holy God to shower you with blessings. Dan S.
Marian Devotion on the Increase
mary
According to Father James Phalan, president of the Mariology Society of America, Mary is the leader of evangelization. He said, "There needs to be a deepening of Mariological reflection embraced by the whole Church, and particularly by the clergy. In many seminaries, the clergy hasn't studied much about the Blessed Virgin Mary." Hopefully after an event like this international Mariological congress, there will be a lot of promotion of Marian devotion through the Year of Faith that will help people rediscover who Mary is in the Church.  Read more.
Remembering the Reformation

Peter Waldo (1140 - 1217) lived 300 hundred years before the Reformation but was a pre-cursor to the Reformers who exposed the false teaching of Rome. Waldo, a once wealthy merchant who lived in Lyon, France, began to preach and teach publicly that "No man can serve two masters, God and mammon." His teachings were accompanied by strong condemnations of Papal excesses and Catholic dogmas, including transubstantiation and purgatory. He also accused the Catholic Church of being the harlot from the book of Revelation. His followers became known as Waldensians. They held that the Bible was the only source of authority and rejected much of the Catholic Church's teaching and were persecuted for their radical and unpopular beliefs. Read more.

Life Size Replica of Noah's Ark
Billionaire brothers built a 450ft long life-size replica of Noah's Ark in Hong Kong. Many believe it was the largest wooden structure ever to roam the seas. The Noah's Ark theme park opened in 2009 and claims the ark is the only full-scale version in the world. The ark rises next one of the world's busiest waterways. Click here.
Sacraments Refused to Those Who Don't Give
Germany's top administrative court has ruled that Catholics who opt out of paying religious taxes must automatically leave the church as well. The court's verdict Wednesday is a victory for the Catholic Church in Germany, which receives more than euro4 billion ($5.14 billion) annually from a surcharge of up to nine percent on income tax bills of registered Catholics. Germany's bishops announced last week that believers who refuse to pay the tax are committing a "grave lapse" and as a result won't be able to receive the sacrament, become godparents or have a religious funeral. Read more.
Bible Verses Banned on Cheerleader Signs
High school cheerleaders in a Texas town will no longer be able to include Bible verses on signs at athletic events after a group sent a letter complaining about the signs. The ban means any student participating in an official school activity cannot hold or create any sign, poster or banner that includes a religious message. Brian McLaren Performs Son's Same-Sex Wedding
Brian McLaren, author of A New Kind of Christian and a prominent speaker on the emerging church, led a non-traditional marriage commitment ceremony that included "traditional Christian elements," but no bride. One of the two grooms was McLaren's son, Trevor McLaren. McLaren says the church should abandon heterosexism and move toward reconciliation with homosexuals. Read more.
Muslim Prayer Rooms Open in Catholic Schools
Education Minister Laurel Broten of Ontario, Canada gave the thumbs-up to a Catholic high school in London to open a Muslim prayer room. Mother Teresa Catholic secondary school in London is opening the prayer room for about 25 Muslim kids. Broten said, "Obviously, that is something they think will make students feel welcome in their school." Read more.
