News from Evangelist Mike Gendron
February  2012
The glory and honor of our Lord Jesus Christ and the purity of His Gospel is exceedingly worth defending for the sake of the precious souls who are victims of deception. Christians cannot allow error to masquerade as truth, nor can we let a lie of the devil go unabated. We must earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints 2000 years ago. The aggressive attacks on the Christian faith continue to be aimed at four strategic targets: the supremacy of God's Word, the sufficiency of God's Son, the sovereignty of God's grace and the singularity of God's Gospel.
Wheaton College to Host Catholic Cardinal George
John Armstrong, an adjunct professor of evangelism at Wheaton College Graduate School, along with Roman Catholic Cardinal George of Chicago, will meet at Wheaton College for A Conversation on Unity in Christ's Mission. Their dialogue will explore the common ground shared by Catholics and evangelical Protestants for the purpose of missional-ecumenism. Armstrong, who is a professing evangelical, states on his blog that he has greatly profited from the writing and spiritual insights of Fr. Richard Rohr, the well-known Catholic mystic teacher and writer from New Mexico.

Editor's note: It is hard to believe how evangelicals can seek unity with the very religion that tortured, brutalized and murdered hundreds of thousands of Christians who refused to bow their knee to Rome. Armstrong and all those under his influence should look to Charles Spurgeon rather than a Catholic priest. Spurgeon said this about the Roman Catholic Church, "There is a deep and indelible sentence of damnation written upon the apostate church...the curse is registered in heaven, its infamy is engraven in the rock forever, followers of Jesus should oppose it with all their might." The Fruit of Rome Displayed on the Internet

In the 20 years of serving in the ministry of Proclaiming the Gospel, God has protected us from many of the fierry darts of the enemy. The attacks are usually in the form of malicious slander, defamatory words or false accusations. There have also been threats to destroy the ministry and several attempts to demolish our web site. Two of the attempts were traced back to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and the Vatican. You can see the latest attacks here.

Pope Seeks to Unite Christianity
Pope Benedict said Christian unity requires more than "cordiality and cooperation" and it must be accompanied by interior conversion. "Faith in Christ and interior conversion, both individual and communal, must constantly accompany our prayer for Christian unity," said the Pope to over 8,000 pilgrims gathered in the Vatican on Jan. 18. His comments mark the start of the 2012 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It will be observed by over 300 Christian churches and ecclesial communities around the globe. Ecumenism, the Pope stated, is not an optional extra for Catholics but is "the responsibility of the entire Church and of all the baptized." Christians, he said, must make praying for unity an "integral part" of their prayer life, "especially when people from different traditions come together to work for victory in Christ over sin, evil, injustice and the violation of human dignity." expectation of that glorious day when together we will all be able to celebrate the Sacraments and profess the faith transmitted by the Apostles." The Truth Can Be Controversial

Several years ago, I was invited to Cornerstone Church in Simi Vally, California, to teach a seminar on Biblical Principles for Evangelizing Roman Catholics. I was told in advance that there would be many Catholics in the audience, along with reporters from the secular news media. Knowing this, I delivered the 90-minute message with much prayer, compassion and uncompromising truth. The objective differences between the teachings and traditions of Rome and the Word of God were presented using the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Lord Jesus Christ was glorified as I proclaimed Him as the all-sufficient Savior who saves repenting sinners completely and forever. The report from the Ventura County Star is here.

Letters from Around the World
Letters
Brother Mike, The Catholic I am witnessing to had answers to all the points you and I raised.  She also said something that I had never heard.  She said that for the first 1000 years of Christianity no one disputed the Catholic view of the real presence (Jesus is physically present, body and blood, soul and divinity, in the consecrated Eucharist).  Is that true?  Where can I find information on that? W.M., Internet

Dear W.M., As you know truth is not dependent upon what a majority opinion decides it to be. It is forever settled in heaven and revealed through Scripture. Jesus said Thy Word is truth! We can know the truth with an accurate literal, grammatical interpretation of Scripture and studying the context. What a nonsensical statement your Catholic friend made! Hold her accountable to prove that no one disputed the Catholic view of the real presence for the first 1000 years of Christianity. Has she actually read what everyone said during that period? Ask her if she would admit to making a wrong statement if you found just one who disputed the real presence. Catholics often make these foolish statements as a smoke screen to divert your attention away from Scripture.

Dear Mike, After sharing the Gospel with folks that God places on my path, 95% of them say "I'm a Catholic." Since receiving ten of your books Preparing for Eternity, they have become a wonderful inspiration and training for me. I always knew much about Roman Catholicism, because I learned about the Reformation in my Christian school in The Netherlands. I also married a R.C. man, who promised to go Protestant with me, but didn't follow up. But God trained me to be Christ's witness; and that is what I live for now. I have given your book to several people, so your ministry is going forth here too. I just tell them that a former Catholic, who became a great Evangelist, wrote this interesting book, (and then I pray for them of course). Sometimes Catholics like to hear it from someone who's been where they are now. I love the work you do and your bold testimony for Jesus. D.R., Ontario, Canada

Dear Mike, I had a bit of uncertainty about my faith and shared it with my pastor. He recommended the book Ragamuffin Gospel and I felt the Spirit within me squirm and a red flag went up so I began to research. I found your article and I want to thank you for being a voice of reason in this confused world. I also want to thank you for making your argument towards Brennan Manning clear and concise. With your permission I will use the truths in your article to teach others. May God richly bless your ministry so others like myself can find wisdom.  Jon, Internet
Is the Jesus of Rome the Jesus of the Bible?
Last month, I flew into Memphis to record four one-hour TV shows on Roman Catholicism with Brannon Howse of Worldview Weekend. The programs will be aired on the National Religious Broadcasters station for subscribers of Direct TV. Those who do not subscribe to Direct TV can watch the programs in the Worldview Weekend Situation Room. Entire Debate on Eternal Security Now Online

The debate which Roman Catholic Apologist Tim Staples initiated with me on the topic of Eternal Security is now available on our website: www.pro-gospel.org or in the latest issue of Catholic Answers Magazine. Staples emailed me after the debate to say: "I want you to know that when you decide to come back to the true Faith and the Church that Jesus Christ established, I would love to have you working for us here at Catholic Answers. I thought you did about as good as any Protestant could, given what I believe is such an obviously unbiblical position. You definitely know your stuff."
Facts About the Danger of the Emerging Church

The Real Roots of the Emergent Church is a new film that takes an honest look at the leaders of the Emerging Church movement such as Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones, Rob Bell, Tony Campolo, Dan Kimball, Phyllis Tickle and others. This film takes a look at what the Emerging Church believes concerning the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Scriptures, absolute truth, hell, homosexuality, mysticism, contemplative prayer, other religions, and eschatology in comparison to the Bible. Wycliffe Changes Titles for God

Wycliffe Bible Tranlators have removed references to God as "Father," to Jesus as "the Son of God." The changes have been made in Bibles they translate for Muslim countries. One example of such a change can be seen in Matthew 28:19. They changed "baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" to: "cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiah and his Holy Spirit." More.
