Dear Friends,We received many comments and questions about Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) from our E-News on January 27th. Jane's offer of encouragement and discernment to the group leader who called her was in response to what was happening in the local group and not a reflection on the BSF organization as a whole. Historically, it has proven to be an organization that has helped many Christians grow in their understanding of God's Word. However, like any international organization, the local group is only as doctrinally sound as the leadership that is responsible for ministering the Bible study. I spent a year in BSF before going to seminary so I can speak from personal experience about the organization. BSF does an excellent job of encouraging people to study God's Word. The discipline of daily study and answering questions helps believers grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The policy that I had a difficult time with was their relationship with unbelievers, especially those of the Catholic faith. The BSF policy does not allow anyone in the small group to lovingly and gently correct a person who voices fatal errors or comments on the Gospel of salvation. We must ask the question, what good is a Bible study if the absolute authority for truth is not used to correct those who are in error? Paul makes this point well in 2 Timothy 3:15-16, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." I can understand the BSF policy when it comes to non-essentials of the faith, but when people who embrace a false gospel can not be corrected, there is a serious problem. To encourage confusion instead of clarity over the Gospel when eternity is a stake goes directly against God's Word. An example of this is the apostle Paul. He did not encourage the Judaizers who infiltrated the church in Galatia with their perversion of the Gospel (Gal. 1:6-9). The small group leader, who called our office to talk with Jane, expressed her concerns with the local BSF leadership. The lecturer was affirming the rumors that "thousands of Muslims were coming to Jesus after seeing visions." Whereas we know God has used visions in the past, He has a specific way to save sinners in the church age through the Great Commission. Saving faith comes from hearing the objective truth of His Word, not from seeing subjective visions (Rom. 10:17). Every spirit must be tested by the Word to determine if it is from God (1 John 4:1). When the women in BSF heard that God was saving people through visions instead of hearing the Gospel, we must wonder what effect this had on their evangelism? Any Bible study leader who refuses to stand on the Word of God needs to be lovingly corrected. The group leader also was concerned about the BSF endorsement of The Message Bible which, you may know, is a very loose translation of God's Word. Many interpretations of Scriptures in The Message Bible are so perverted they misrepresent the truth. She was also alarmed at the choice and endorsement of the apostate church in which the BSF meetings were being held. She did not want to be affiliated with or associated with that kind of church. When she approached the leadership with her concerns, they defended their position rather than correcting the problems. In these times of great deception we must encourage everyone to be good Bereans, to have discernment, to test everything and hold on to what is good. Compromise is occurring everywhere. The temptation to accept it and go along with the crowd is great. However whenever the purity of the Gospel is being undermined we must contend for the faith regardless of how unpopular it makes us. There is much at stake if we don't - the glory of God, the sanctity of His Church and the eternal destiny of souls. May God help us to never shrink back in the battle for truth!

Letters From You
Dear Mike, I have been reading your newsletter and handing out copies of your books for a number of years. If I read a text in Scripture describing events from centuries ago or come across words that I don't understand, I go to the dictionary of that period to look up what the word actually means and how the author is using it in the sentence or passage. In doing this, I am not interpreting the meaning of a word based on my own opinion, but what the actual definition of the word means. I am dumfounded by the ignorant assertions of Catholics against your ministry. They continually state that people are not equipped to interpret the Word of God. Do they not know that everyone has access to the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts and the Hebrew and Greek definitions for the words that are used? This means that NO ONE has an excuse for not knowing what the author meant when they wrote a particular book. This information is even on the internet...for FREE. If the proponents of Catholicism would spend some time researching the Word of God in light of the original text meanings, they would see, God willing, that Catholicism is indeed a man-made religion with a false Jesus and would turn away from it before it is too late. Keep up the good fight! T.N., Frisco, TX

Evangelical College Names Catholic President
The evangelical world was taken by surprise when the Board of Trustees of the King's College, in New York City, announced that it had unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Dinesh D'Souza to serve as the school's fifth president. "D'Souza is a model of the ideal King's College graduate," states the college website. D'Souza's own website states that he is "a believing Catholic but a poorly practicing one."
On December 2, 2010, a special inauguration ceremony for President D'Souza took place at New York's Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. This is a very liberal church pastored for many years by the late Dr. John Sutherland Bonnell, an apostate known for his work to break down the walls between Catholicism and Protestantism. In 1966 he received a silver medal for his ecumenical accomplishments by Pope Paul VI, during a private audience. Billy Graham was famously criticized by the late Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones for having Bonnell on the platform of one of his Crusades in Great Britain. The King's College has been a prominent evangelical school since its beginning in 1938. Click |

A Biblical Response to Easy Believism
The church in America has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. We have witnessed the compromise of the Gospel through the influence of the Purpose Driven Life, the Emerging Church, The Seeker Friendly Church, The Shack and "easy believism." The effect of these movements have been devastating! We all know professing Christians who are victims of this corrupt theology and these man-centered methods of evangelism. If you have ever wanted to know how to reach them, we have an excellent resource that will equip you and encourage you to do so. According to John MacArthur "Studies on Saving Faith" is one of the most potent, insightful works Arthur Pink ever penned. Order a copy by calling 972-495-0485 or clicking here.

Use the IPhone and IPad for Confession of Sin
A new app for devices like the iPhone and iPad aims to take the intimidation factor out of Confession for Catholics - and the Church is giving it the thumbs-up. You'll still have to tell a priest your sins in person, but "Confession: A Roman Catholic App" holds your hand through the process via your hand-held. Katie, a Temple University sophomore, likes how the app takes you step-by-step, preparing you for the sacrament by asking questions that might point out a sin or two you'll want to divulge. Teresa, a senior at Temple, says that'll help - as long as you're not blasting Jay-Z when you enter the confessional. "Confession for some people can be kind of intimidating, so I think this will make it a lot easier for them to go through it," Teresa said. Father Jerry Wild at the University's Newman Center says when it comes to absolution, touchscreens can't replace the face-to-face, but support for the app shows the Church is keeping up with the times. Did You Know?
Only 30 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Muslims, according to a Pew Forum poll. At the same time, more than half the country says they know "not very much" or "nothing at all" about the Islamic faith. We all need to look at their history and how they gained control of 50 governments. Americans must be warned that Islam is not just a religion, but a socio-political organization with a well-defined strategy for world dominion. Without the cloak of religion to hide behind, Islam would be banned in the civilized world as a political ideology of hate. To learn more about Islam click here.

Our Most Popular Gospel Tract for Catholics
Everything you need to know to be an effective witness to the world's largest mission field is presented in this 16-panel booklet. It shows the distinct contrast between the New Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Bible on the key doctrines of salvation and the sufficiency of Jesus Christ.
The tract is also in Spanish.

Contending for the Faith
As a minister of God's Word, it is my responsibility to not only teach the truth, but to also warn the church about doctrinal error. We see this modeled by the Lord Jesus and His apostles. It is an unpopular position but doctrinal error must be removed from the church or it will become weak and loose its divinely ordained purpose.
