Good News from Proclaiming the Gospel Ministry
January 2011
Dear friends of Proclaiming the Gospel Ministry,

As we begin our 20th year of serving our Lord Jesus Christ through this ministry, we are amazed at what He has done and continues to do. In 1991 when we began inviting lost people into our home to watch a Gospel video, we had no idea where our Lord would take us. Since then we have experienced the joy of seeing many people repent and believe the Gospel but we have also experienced heartache when sinners reject their only hope of forgiveness. It is our heart's desire to continue equipping and encouraging the saints to be faithful ambassadors for the King of kings as long as He gives us strength!

Letters From You
Letters
Hi Jane,
I just had to write and thank you again for the Scriptural support and encouragement that you gave to me when I contacted your ministry a couple months ago regarding Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). As you well know, we need encouraging words now and then from brothers and sisters in Christ. There is no question that the Lord led me to call and for you to answer that day! You encouraged me to start my own study because of the problems within BSF. I am excited to announce our study of Galatians (from John MacArthur's church) is being launched next week! I did not pursue the women, they came to me.  We even have a woman in Houston who will be joining via email and phone! I could go on and on about God's hand in all of this, but rest assured, His hand was extremely visible!

Now here's the interesting part. The BSF class I was involved in is one of the largest in North America. I believe there are now close to 700 women attending. Along with all the talk of Muslims' visions of Jesus, there has been a growing use of The Message Bible in the small groups, talk of yoga among members, etc.  Well, the church they have met in for years suddenly booted them out for various reasons. The church itself is Emergent so I didn't see it as a loss. BSF searched for 6 weeks to find a place that would take them in. Finally, they found one and it was sealed with approval and endorsed by BSF headquarters. Can you imagine moving a flock of 700 women with over 100 children to a structure that entertains the following events on weekends and evenings? Click

I am so thankful for your encouragement and discernment when I needed it most and for God calling me out of that organization. Tell Mike that my daughter is using his DVD on Jude and Contending for the Faith for a study she will be teaching next month at a church where they will be setting up a Labyrinth for a workshop the next day!.

Blessings always on your powerful ministry! J.B.

Mary Unites Christians and Muslims

Mary

Christians and Muslims might lack a common dogmatic base from which to discuss theology, but they share devotion and esteem for a woman who brings them together: Mary, mother of Jesus. This reflection was offered by Father Joseph Saghbini, of Jerusalem. He was speaking at a conference in Damascus, where some 1,000 people participated including Christians and Muslims, representatives from Eastern Churches, and participants from Lebanon, Jordan and other Arab nations. Father Saghbini said there is no common dogmatic basis for Christians and Muslims together to deal with theological questions and the magisterium of the Church. However, what is possible is the common reflection about Mary. The Christian point of view is: Mary is the elected Virgin and Mother of God and we are venerating her and we are praying to her. She is the intercessor for us with Jesus Christ. The Muslim point of view is: Mary is a special woman and the best among the women.

Brotherhood between Christians and Muslims shall be intensified and supported from the lectures given at this conference. The daily talks between Christians and Muslims should be led and should be based on the foundation of love, mutual tolerance and respect. Zenit.org

Revisiting The Horror of the Inquisition
Burn at Stake
Are Interest in the history of the Inquisition continues, and many people, including Catholics, desire to get the facts in written format. This we have done, together with the actual photos of instruments of torture and death, used during more than 600 years of dreadful horror. In the words of the renowned Catholic historian Lord Acton, "The Inquisition is peculiarly the weapon and peculiarly the work of the Popes. It stands out from all those things in which they co-operated, followed or assented as the distinctive feature of papal Rome. The principle of the Inquisition is the Pope's sovereign power over life and death. Whosoever disobeys him should be tried and tortured and burnt."

We wish to reach out in love to those within the Papal system of bondage and deception. While the article is strong in denunciation, nonetheless we trust the Lord's own promise, "the truth shall make you free." The article is a valuable source of documented historical truth. Click here

 Priest Vanish After Abuse
priest abuseTen years after the clergy sex abuse scandal first exploded in the United States, lawsuits have been settled, reports issued, policies overhauled. But even as the crisis has shifted to Europe and the Vatican prepares to issue new guidelines on how to handle sex abuse cases, something glaring is missing in this country: the accused priests. Although the vast majority were removed from ministry long ago - barred from celebrating Mass in public, administering the sacraments, wearing their clerical collars or presenting themselves as priests - church officials say they have no way to monitor where the men are now. Nor do they keep official data on how many were defrocked, or stripped of their priestly status; how many were imprisoned or placed on sex-offender lists; how many are working; and how many are dead. The priests have vanished from public view. Their fates are a mystery to their victims, their parishioners and even their attorneys.

Independently compiling data about what happened to the men is nearly impossible. Reports by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops show that at least 5,768 priests were accused from 1950 to 2009. Although the church deems most of the allegations credible, the vast majority have never been proved, and many of the priests have never been publicly identified. The same is true in the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington, where local church officials put the tally of accused priests at 42 without naming all of them. (At least five additional men who belong to religious orders have been accused in the Washington Archdiocese.)

But a comprehensive list of names does not exist. Victims groups often disagree with church officials on who should be included and maintain their own lists. Click Washington Post, 12/4/2010

Reversing the Reformation
Rev Reform
One of the most successful strategies the Vatican has pursued for reversing the Reformation has been the creation of unity accords with Evangelicals. Many evangelical leaders are now signing these accords and accepting Roman Catholicism as a valid expression of Christianity. Mike gives 7 critical reasons why the Reformation can never be reversed and why Catholics and Evangelicals can never be united in a common faith. The second message on this DVD is "Which Gospel Do You Believe?" Mike contrasts the many distortions of the Gospel with the only one that has the power to save. Click here to order.
