Breaking News. Government Panel Recommends Against PSA Screening for ALL Men!
The US Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) has today recommended against PSA-based screening for men of all ages because it believes there's a good chance there is no net benefit associated with the PSA test and that the risks outweigh the benefits. The PSA test is the primary test used to screen men for prostate cancer along with a digital examination. The decision was made by a government panel that did not even include a urologist or a oncologist.
American Urological Association (AUA) President Sashil S. Lacy, MD, and ZERO (The Project to End Prostate Cancer) CEO Skip Lockwood have expressed outrage and disappointment over the refusal of the USPSTF to amend its position on the use of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing for prostate cancer.
