Summer is a time where we get to catch up on some of the reading or research we have not had time to do. Hopefully we are also able to take some time off to enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you are in the office, on a plane, or on vacation, here are a couple of fun things you can watch or read that you may not have known are available.
- YouTube - Did you know you are missing some great videos from Microsoft? Visit the official Microsoft Channel or the Microsoft Dynamics Channel on YouTube. Right now on the Microsoft Channel you can get a sneak peek into the cool upcoming features of Windows 8! You can also visit our YouTube channel where you can see videos we have posted.
- Executive Book Summaries - We all hope to read some business books, but never seem to have the time, or sometimes the desire to. Executive Book Summaries are a great way for you to read some of the top business books in an easy to read, shorter summary format. Whether you want to read this on your computer, Kindle, iPad, print them out, or even listen to them, this will save you time and allow you to get caught up on that long book list. Click here to download a sample or to subscribe.
We hope you enjoy your summer!
Sincerely,
Michael Ciabattari President

Steps to Choosing an Accounting/ERP System
Choosing the right time and the right accounting or ERP system is a business decision that is not easy to make; we do not have to tell you that. What we can do is help you with 3 easy steps to help you make this process easier for you and your organization.
- Understand your accounting needs. Assess the managerial and financial needs that your organization needs. What reports do you need? Do you process payroll yourself? Do you carry inventory?
- Know your business' industry requirements. Take into consideration the type of business you operate, what sectors you specialize in, and the compliance guidelines you must follow. For example if you distribute goods, what standards or functionality do you need to have to help you meet state, federal or even internal requirements?
- Talk to your CFO, accountant, accounting staff, and IT staff. Speaking with one or several of these positions will help you to quickly get to the heart of what your business is most in need of. Your IT staff will also help you to understand your hardware situation and any needs you might have there before purchasing a new accounting system.
If you take the time to build your organization's wish list, you will find that selecting the right accounting/ERP system will not be such a daunting task. Most often your wish list will help you narrow down your search to just a few choices that are right for you.
If you have your list completed or need help in completing your list, please let us know. We would be happy to help make this an easier process for you. Email John Dobbins for more information. You can also download this Everyone Wins guide from Microsoft to help you start your wish list.

To delete or not to delete, that is the question.
Emails...What do you need to keep and what can you get rid of permanently? It's a tricky question and often confused with 'which emails are important'? Take an email that says 'let's have lunch'. There shouldn't be any harm in deleting that one right? But say there's a workplace harassment case between the sender and recipient six months later? Suddenly that email could be very important.
Some industries have strict federal guidelines on storing email communications (financial institutions for example). But what most people don't realize is that ALL businesses must comply with the Federal Regulations on Civil Procedures, or FRCP. Essentially you must know where your data is and how to retrieve it. Failure to do so can lead to fines or loss of a lawsuit.
Could your organization be breaking the law? Read this article to find out more on email communication backups vs. archiving and what it means for your business.
