If you were to believe the Microsoft advertising around "the cloud", you might have the impression that it's really designed to help you crop your family photos into a nicer picture or allow you to watch the fictional "Celebrity Smackdown" while stranded in the airport.
Not so! At Convergence 2011, Microsoft shared its vision to take Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions "to the cloud". (Check out this page for a definition of what cloud computing really means.)
Building on the success of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, the company revealed a path for its enterprise resource planning (ERP) customers to move to the cloud with the next major releases of Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions, which will run on the Windows Azure platform. But don't be concerned. As always, you'll decide when, and if, you to move to the cloud on your own terms. The Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions will bring the same benefits in the cloud as they do on-premises. Regardless of which Microsoft Dynamics product you may be considering, you'll have options in the future as you evaluate whether a cloud solution is appropriate for your organization.

| Near Field Communication for Next Generation Marketing | | |
Near Field Communications (NFC) is a short range wireless technology similar to Bluetooth. So what's the big deal? With NFC all you need to establish a connection is to hold your NFC enabled device up to a NFC tag in a poster, timetable, coupon or even a physical object. Once within range (usually 4 cm or less) NFC allows the transfer of data in just seconds, no programming required.
NFC has been hugely successful in Japan. Now that many new mobile phones in the US are NFC enabled, NFC has the potential to ignite billions of dollars of incremental revenue from mobile marketing services, ticketing, payments and electronic access.

Frustrated with the endless phone trees when calling your credit card company, bank or other organization you do business with? Want to talk to a human? Before you pick up the phone, check out DialaHuman or GetHuman. The websites list customer service numbers and give instructions on how to bypass automated prompts to reach a live customer service rep.
With another free service, LucyPhone, you can avoid being placed on hold. You simply enter the company's name or phone number, your number, and hit "start". LucyPhone connects you to the company's line where you pick an option for getting a live rep. Then hang up and you'll get a callback when a person is actually on the line.

I realize it's something we don't always want to think about (implies we're getting old) but here's a tip on how to get a copy of your Social Security statement. You may need it for a loan application or other business reasons.
Fill out a form to place your request:
- Complete the form online at www.ssa.gov. Click on "Request a Social Security Statement" from the left side of the page.
- Download the form from www.ssa.gov, complete it and mail it in.
- Call 800-772-1213 to request the form.
- Visit a Social Security office to obtain the form.
