Integration Insider |
April 2011 | |
This time of year you have made sure that you have all your financial data submitted to your accountant, and then of course onto the local and federal government. This process may have been a painful one, not because you had to pay taxes, but because you had to find all of your documentation. For those of you that had this organized with all your data stored in one place, you probably found this task relatively painless. So, ask yourself this, each year when you have to go through this tax routine are you kicking yourself for not being prepared or do you know where you data is?
This exercise does not just apply to tax season, but every aspect of our business lives. Do you and your employees have the data they need when they need it? Does your team have to scurry to find what they need when a customer or prospect calls to inquire about an order? Take a few minutes to think about these questions - if you don't know the answers, ask your team. Once you have these answers, ask yourself one final question - are you losing productivity because people have to scramble instead of having data at their fingertips? If you answered "yes", then it may be time to help your business by giving your employees the tools they need to store data in one central location.

10 Financial Fundamentals for 2011
Business owners take heart! Here are 10 financial fundamentals for your business that don't require a CPA degree to understand. A few particularly appealing ones are...
- Employees spend most of your cash. Have a meeting, and ask them to help you identify ways to maximize margins and cut expenses. Write those things down, and put them into the new budget and your operation.
- Interest rates are still low. Talk with your bankers about adjusting any outstanding notes to the new rates.
- Profit is the Queen of business, but cash is King. Tighten up credit terms with customers. Have a meeting with your sales staff to make sure they understand the new policies. Stay close to your accounts receivables - real close.
- If possible, personally call on every customer soon to have a business visit, not a sales call. Lay out your case for how you will serve them in the coming year, but also reveal what the relationship needs to look like for it to be good for you. Think partners, not adversaries.

Donate Your Old Cell Phones |
Do you have a drawer of old cell phones you don't know what to do with? You can donate these cell phones to be recycled or reused. ReCellular has set up donation boxes across the country to make this easy for you. Visit their website, enter your zip code and you will find a drop off box location near you. In addition there are many charities that have set up donation boxes with ReCelluar, so you can find a drop off location that will give to the listed charities as well. Worried about the data on the phone? They have thought of that too by helping you erase the data based on your cell model (check their website for details). Not to worry though, they do scrub the phones clean of all the data when they receive them as well. |
Power Efficiency Report in Windows 7
Do you have a laptop that you would love to get more battery life out of? If you are running Windows 7 there is a hidden, but built in, report that will examine the energy used on your laptop and make recommendations on how you can improve it. Here's how:
- Type cmd in the search box. When the cmd icon appears, right click on it and choose "Run as administrator". You may be prompted by Windows to allow this program to make changes to your computer.
- At the command line, type in: powercfg -energy -output \Folder\Energy_Report.html(the \folder represents the folder you want the report to be saved to. Make sure the folder is already created and that you have access to it, i.e. c:\users\default\desktop ).
- It will take a minute or so for Windows 7 to examine the energy use of your laptop. Once it is done it will create a report and save it to the folder you specified in the previous step.
- Once you have the report you can follow the recommendations it gives to improve your laptop battery life immediately or ask your friendly techie to assist you.
