Great Ideas Pocket NotesCollectively, we all look for ways to improve our companies, whether it is through business direction, sales, marketing or technology. We hope for that million-dollar idea, that cost saving strategy, or that marketing campaign that will make sales soar. While these are all wonderful things to strive for, it is also important to look at the small things that can make a big impact, especially in the places you may not expect. Look for the ideas that can spread and make a big difference in your organization. Imagine if you could increase communications between departments by 30% or save 50% of the time that it normally takes you to run the monthly reports. This may seem insignificant to some businesses but it is the small victories that ultimately trickle down to the entire team and lead to those million dollar ideas.

The moral of the story...even your small ideas can make a big impact. Try jotting them down with the Great Ideas Pocket Notes and start the spread!

Bonus Depreciation Provision for Businesses: Take Advantage of Potential Software Write Offs

On December 17, 2010, President Obama signed into law a new bill that could allow businesses to write off an additional 100% of the cost of qualifying assets (including software) acquired and placed into service after September 8, 2010 through December 31, 2011. This law could also allow businesses to write off an additional 50% of the cost of qualifying assets placed into service after December 31, 2011 through December 31, 2012. It is possible that certain tax benefits offered by this bill will only be applicable to qualifying asset purchases that occur over the next two years.

To further illustrate the potential tax benefits that this bill may offer to you, download a full copy of the text of the bill. We encourage you to review this bill with a qualified tax advisor.

Ethics Can Be A Scary Word

Ethics really shouldn't be scary and with the right mind set, they will actually help your organization. Many times ethics are only thought of after a situation requires them to be brought up. Establish a solid foundation of what is expected when certain situations arise and you will have a better workplace when conflicts do arise. Keep in mind that everyone will have their own unique standards and that is fine. Just make sure what you decide on is truly appropriate for your organization and then share it with your team. With these standards in place, your organization will not be put it in a negative spotlight because your team is armed to properly handle the situation. Read more of these how-to tips from The NonProfit Times to see how you can develop your own policies and protect your organization.

Myth Buster: Integrations are Expensive and Complicated

Microsoft Dynamics has a new tool available that "busts" the myth that integrations are expensive and complicated. Its name you ask? It is "The Connector for Microsoft Dynamics" and the best part of this tool is that it is free. Yes, that's right, free. What it does for you is connect your Microsoft Dynamics ERP system with your Microsoft Dynamics CRM system. In itself that may not sound all that impressive, but what is impressive are the out of the box mappings between the two and the bi-directional data communication. See how one company was able to leverage this free connector, gain faster service and reduce development cost. Read Microsoft's case study on BSN, a health supplement maker, and learn how you can make these improvements to your organization today.

Bring Value - Simple Concept, Right?

For the most part, every company markets themselves intentionally through activities like direct mail campaigns or advertisements. If you are regularly marketing your business, you know how difficult it can be to get your message across to your audience. This holds especially true when there are numerous other companies just like you, doing the same things to reach their audience. When you are trying to let everyone know who you are, there is one goal to keep in mind: Are you establishing yourself as an expert and trusted advisor? All too often it can be easy to focus on what we can do rather than the value we can bring. Value demonstrates knowledge of your prospects' situation rather than just an explanation of what you sell. Visit the Microsoft Dynamics Community Blog to read "Why You Must Market Your Value, Not Your Services" by Erica Stritch as it provides a great example of why you need to demonstrate value when developing your marketing strategies, and establish you and your company as the experts.

Business Intelligence for Microsoft Dynamics GP

One of the biggest challenges facing businesses today is having easy access to accurate and informative business data. Without strong reporting it can be extremely difficult to make informed decisions.

Many companies rely on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets that are manually updated with information that may or may not be current. Imagine if your business had reporting that would allow your operations to see if they are in alignment with the strategic goals of the company. All of this can be easily done with Microsoft Dynamics GP which has integrations into your other Microsoft tools such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint. Additional benefits of having accurate data presented with tools that end users are familiar with will allow for easy adoption of a new system, improved planning, and better decision making.

Read this informative document about how Business Intelligence with Microsoft Dynamics GP can help your business. When you are ready to take your company to the next level, contact us at info@idtconsulting.com and we will help you get started.
