In the last few weeks we:

*Collaborated in gathering 3,000 signatures that were presented at a Rally October 3 at the Roundhouse calling for Clean Energy and a Healthy
delivering signatures
Future. Next week we will deliver a letter with signatures by faith leaders. If you have missed this letter let us know and we will send you a copy to consider signing.

Of course, we are always connecting with and assisting any Congregation who requests information, resources, ideas and might be interested in energy assessments and energy efficiency or solar.
We send congratulations to New Life Presbyterian, Albuquerque which completed an energy audit and to Christ United Methodist, Albuquerque which is pursuing measures to become more energy efficient. Blessings to St. Therese School that is working on efficiency with UNM engineering students and pursuing solar and to Congregation Albert as they pursue solar power. Also, congratulations to Gallup, which hosted their first monthly Earth Sabbath Prayer in September.

There is so much happening to care for God's creation...please read on. Now is the time to get engaged in this exciting ministry.

Around the World
Australian Catholics Magazine

In Australian  Catholics Magazine, Fr. Andrew Hamilton, SJ, wrote an article titled Catholics and the Environment in which he addresses a key question: How does Christian faith lead us to see the environment?

Fr. Hamilton points out that Scripture highlights three features of creation - its beauty, its complexity and our responsibility for it - [which] colour the way in which we should see the world. He discusses the Catholic principle of solidarity in light of both the human and non-human creation.  He also calls attention to how Jesus' life and ministry serves as a model for how we are called to care for creation.  Finally, Fr. Hamilton notes that environmental degradation is often due to sin and selfishness, and invites us to reflect on how authentic Christian living can lead us to more fully care for God's good gift of creation.

ECO-JESUIT: Responding to environmental refugees

Mariel de Jesus of the Philippine Jesuit research organization,  Environmental Science for Social Change, addresses the reality of environmental refugees like those depicted in the film Sun Come Up.
Ecology is seen as a critical dimension and a cross-cutting issue in the discussion of migration and displacement.  The hope for better jobs continues to be a significant pull factor for migration.  This is especially true for natural-resource dependent communities if those resources are depleted or degraded.  The impact of climate change is also felt, as communities contend with the threat of extreme weather events, as well as the more long-term challenge posed by sea-level rise.  Additionally, people are faced with tough decisions in terms of moving their homes away from areas with high-risks of natural hazards.
