Greetings!
Blessings these holy winter days leading to Hanukkah, Solstice and Christmas. the past month has been very busy with a variety of NMIPL work to care for creation and work in solidarity with our brothers and sisters at the UN Climate Conference in Durban, South Africa.

First Unitarian of Albuquerque Invites Auditions for
"The Mystery of the Cold Wet Nose"
Tryouts medium length play to benefit local animals and their environment will be held:
Adults: Saturday, January 21, 1pm (6 adult parts, one lead male singing role)
Teens and children: Saturday, January 21, 3 pm (5 teen and 2 children's parts) For reading each will read their own essay describing the nose of their favorite animal.
6-12 children Mimes: Sunday, January 22, 1 pm. (parts for trees, flowers...dancing)
Orchestra auditions: January 22, 3 pm
Production will be April 14 and 15, 2012 to begin Earth Week.

Grants for schools and 501 (c) (3) non-profits working with schools and community Gardens
Grants of $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000 available throughout New Mexico through
New Mexico Centennial Gardens Program. All applications due by 5 pm, January 13, 2012.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria includes:
* Capacity to manage grant funds, skills and experience to undertake a garden project.
* Garden project has participation from stakeholders, school or community
* Thoughtful consideration to the technical challenges of garden, maintenance: soil preparation, water availability, tool storage and municipal regulations.
* Articulate a plan for integrating the garden into the life of the school/community, including plan to put the garden's produce to good use.

"In the coming decades, climate change can bring deadly famine, displacement and disease to large sectors of the human population and spawn mass extinctions of other species. In the long term, the climate could change so radically that the earth could no longer support human civilization. In this sense, caring for the climate and the biosphere is a paramount pro-life issue."
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) just released a report:
*Extreme precipitation, flooding and heat waves are on the rise due to increases in greenhouse gas pollution from smokestacks and tailpipes.
*2011 has brought the costly impact of extreme weather into sharp focus.So far in 2011 there have been 10 extreme weather events cost the U.S. more than a billion dollars each: More than any other year.
*Confirming the link between climate change and recent trends in extreme weather.
*The costs of inaction are already mounting.
Canadian Interfaith Call for Leadership and Action on Climate Change
At an historic meeting in Ottawa on October 23-24, some 30 faith communities of Canada met on Parliament Hill and discussed the urgent need for ecological justice, especially with regards to the climate change crisis. o read this statement, visit:
