Spring has Sprung in North Texas!

So, why wait for summer to come to camp?  Playtri has two great upcoming camps that are an easy drive from Dallas and offer a
very focused weekend of training, coaching and education.

First, we are so excited about our Iron Texas Camp that is targeted for those racing in the inaugural Ironman Texas, but will also be great training for any other summer Ironman races, or if you want to check the course for 2012!  If you've got the Ironman bug, make sure to join us in The Woodlands for our first annual Iron Texas Camp on April 6th-9th.

Second, if you plan to race Buffalo Springs Ironman 70.3, or just need a hardcore training weekend, we will be returning to Lubbock on May 12th-14th for one of our oldest and most challenging camps. This is an exceptional training opportunity, and wraps up with the famous 'Buffman & Squeaky' Olympic Distance Triathlon - it makes for a great way to finish the weekend for those athletes who really want to test themselves.

Camps are an excellent way to accelerate your progress towards your goals. We have seen huge gains achieved by those who attend camps - and not just one! The educational lectures help provide well rounded comprehension of how to train at the optimum level and get the most out of your plan, while the camaraderie with fellow triathletes
is fun and equally informative. And, in true Playtri fashion, we guarantee you will get in solid, quality training that will push your limits and improve your confidence, as well as your strength and endurance.

Hurry and sign up today, and come experience camp - Playtri style!

Spots are still available in both camps, so go and get registered at www.playtri.com/camp.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at jeanne@playtri.com.

 KingTutKing Tut Triathlon

Are you ready to race like an Egyptian?  We hope so because the King Tut Sprint Triathlon and My First Tri are right around the corner!!

One of our signature races at one of our favorite venues,  the April 17th, 2011 King Tut Triathlon is the perfect open water race to get your season off on the right foot.  With Sprint and My First Tri distances, this race is a fun event for beginners and elites alike, with an open wave offered in the sprint distance for those athletes wanting an extra challenge.

The race starts and finishes at the beautiful Stonebridge Ranch Beach and Tennis Club in McKinney, TX, and the course is well-marked and heavily supported by both volunteers and local police officers, as well as kayaks and lifeguards on the swim.  The swim is generally wetsuit legal, so come prepared with your favorite wetsuit and plenty of Body Glide!  The bike course has rolling hills and is moderately fast, and the run course takes place on paved paths winding through the Stonebridge Ranch Area.

All participants will receive a technical race shirt along with other fun swag, and all My First Tri finishers will receive a special finishers medal.  Come race with us before the Texas heat sets in!  Coach Morgan.

What has one Kids Tri, two Run Races, and one awesome Sprint Triathlon?  You guessed it - the Historic McKinney Kiwanis Triathlon weekend, produced by Playtri Racing and benefiting the McKinney Kiwanis Club!

This year, the City of McKinney has declared May "Get Fit Month," and what better way to celebrate than with a triathlon that has continued to develop into an exceptional racing experience for athletes of all ages?  The youth event, which takes place on Saturday, April 30th is fun and safe with a pool swim and ample support from volunteers and police officers on the bike and run courses.  The run races, on Sunday, May 1st just before the adult triathlon are  3.6 miles and 2K distances, with overall and age group awards for the 3.6 milers.  The title event, the Historic McKinney Kiwanis Sprint Triathlon (also on May 1st) is a fun but challenging event with a pool swim and moderately hilly bike and run.  Always a great early season event, this race tends to draw athletes ranging from beginners to elites.

The race starts and finishes at McKinney High School, and new this year, Playtri is offering one of its Race Ready Programs for the Kids Tri to help young athletes prepare for a positive race experience -contact Coach Morgan today to register, it's not too late!

SalmonIt's spring, and everyone is craving fresh foods, whether it's a healthy meal at home or a taco with friends at Fuzzy's by White Rock.  Read on for ways to satisfy your craving and give your body the healthy nutrients it needs!

Salmon is a great source of Omega- 3, a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) which cannot be produced by the human body. It can only be absorbed through food or supplements. PUFA's have a multitude of positive health benefits including strengthening the inflammatory system, immune system, and cardiovascular system to lower triglycerides, boost recovery, and help prevent cancer. Oily fish such as tuna, trout and salmon are all high in PUFA's.  Check out the following link for a delicious (and very triathlon-appropriate!) recipe that will help you get your daily dose of PUFA's.

Calories: 415   Protein: 36g  Carbs: 25g   Fat: 19g

Pair the Kona Glazed Salmon with rice and steamed snap peas for a healthy, balanced meal.

Fuzzy's Tacos - Choose the Right Taco for Taste and Health!

Fuzzy's Taco seems to be the lastest hot spot to meet your friends, whether it's for a quick, working lunch, or a post-ride feast -  they have many locations in the metroplex, including one near White Rock Lake at Mockingbird and Abrams.  They might not scream healthy, but don't judge too quickly - as with many restaurants, there are options that are both good, and good for you.  One healthy idea is to order the grilled fish or shrimp Baja soft tacos (Coach Morgan's favorite) or the shredded chicken tacos. The veggie Baja taco comes with black beans and onions, your protein source coming from the beans, and your immune fighting source from the onion. Although the fried potatoes are  tempting after a long training morning, choose a side of beans instead for healthy protein and carbohydrates to fuel your recovery. The borracho beans are always a great choice. If it is breakfast you are craving, go for the Migas sans cheese or tortilla strips and, of course, the beans instead of the latin fried potatoes.  You'll satisfy your body's need to refuel its glycemic stores, while satisfying your taste for Tex-Mex!

Good luck and happy eating!
