ACPE Board of Representatives Highlights

By Sally Schwab, President

Sally SchwabMy intent is to share highlights from the ACPE Board of Representatives meeting November 4-6, 2011 in Atlanta, GA with members of the ACPE.  My reflection is not comprehensive of all of the actions taken by the ACPE Board of Representatives at this meeting.  For a more complete review, I suggest that you contact your regional Board of Representatives members and ask to review the meeting minutes.

The ACPE Board of Representatives accepted a new mission, value, and vision statement. Three values statements were accepted and six strategic initiatives. My thought is that the new statements lay a clear and transforming opportunity for our ACPE.

A governance proposal was reviewed by the ACPE Board of Representatives. The governance proposal will be presented to the ACPE Member meeting at the 2012 REM/ACPE Annual Conference in February, 2012 for discussion. A vote to change ACPE by-laws will occur before June 30, 2012 by email following GA law guidelines.

By Robin Brown-Haithco, ACPE President-Elect

Robin Brown-HaithcoMy Dear Colleagues,

The 2012 REM/ACPE Annual Conference is fast approaching. We hope that you are making plans to be a part of this historic occasion in the life of ACPE. For the first time in 25 years, both conferences will be held conjointly. I have been waiting for this joint conference to happen for a long time. And it is my hope and prayer that this conference will be the beginning of our association's move towards wholeness.

Accreditation Commission

The following actions were taken at the recent meeting of the ACPE Accreditation Commission: Accreditation Commission's fall 2011 meeting.

To ensure compliance with Department of Education requirements, the ACPE Accreditation Commission adopted revisions to two policies at the November 2011 meeting:

(1) added new section d. on financial information to Adverse Action (F 3. Adverse Action, P 18-19, Accreditation P&P Manual) and;

(2) revised Appeal Pool (item H, p. 100, Appendix 9, Appeal of Adverse Accreditation Decisions), to provide for inclusion of public members on appeals panels.

These policies can be found in the Accreditation Commission Policy and Procedre manual available in the Accreditation Commission webpage and will be incorporated into the 2015 revision of the Accreditation Manual.

Standards Committee

As the Standards Committee is in the process of reviewing the 2010 ACPE Standards and considering what changes may be needed for the 2015 ACPE Standards, we decided to develop a study document regarding two proposed changes. We are seeking comment from interested parties about these proposed changes, specifically from ACPE members, students, members of cognate groups, and members of the public.

Your opinions matter. The deadline to provide feedback is January 15, 2012.
