Rituals of Encounter in Healing in Pastoral Care and Counseling

International Pastoral Care and Counseling Congress in Rotorua

By Ted Hodge

He was a Mauri, the indigenous people of New Zealand. He had attended the last three International Pastoral Care and Counseling Congresses in Ghana, India and Poland. He had a dream of having the congress in his home land, but cancer took Jim Biddle two years before the dream came true August 21-26, 2011 in Rotorua, NZ. We were 140 strong gathered from all over the globe in this land of lakes, geysers, mud pots and volcanoes. On the last night Jim's wife and son were honored at our banquet but not before we had been hosted by members of his people and the Mauri Anglican Bishop. The congress began with an extended welcome.
