Au revoir, kwa herini, good bye...

A Final Word from ACPE Executive Director, Teresa E. Snorton

Teresa SnortonA few short months ago (March 2011), I said "good-bye" to my CME Church constituents in French speaking Rwanda and DR Congo, and to those in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia who spoke Swahili.

I share those same words of "good-bye" now with my ACPE colleagues, after almost twelve years as your Executive Director.... "Au revoir, kwa herini, good bye....."

When I bid my CME friends in Africa good-bye, it was just a way of bringing closure to a wonderful mission trip, a delightful time of worship and fellowship as their new Bishop. It was not intended to be permanent. I was planning to come back in August. Although Bishop Lockett had already died, none of us were thinking that I would be called to replace him in the United States. But that is what happened, and as a result of finally accepting that I am not "superwoman," I initiated what has become my retirement from the ACPE!

Executive Director Transition

By Ted Trout-Landen

As of August 31, the Rev. Dr. Teresa Snorton will retire as ACPE's Executive Director.  For these past 11 plus years our Association has been the beneficiary of her leadership, her collegial style and her guiding hand.  With her appointment as Bishop in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, Teresa moves into a new chapter in her professional and vocational life.  We thank her and wish her many blessings in this new journey!  There will be a staff celebration for Teresa when the Personnel Committee meets in September. The Association will also honor Teresa for her work as the ACPE Executive Director at the 2012 Annual Meeting.

On September 1, the Rev. Deryck Durston will assume the Board appointed position of Interim Executive Director. Deryck has served the Association for eight years as the Associate Director.  He is known to us as a committed, forthright and engaging leader.  Given the realities of this transition process, it is anticipated that we could be in an interim process for up to 18 or more months.

During this interim transition time, many volunteer leaders and some contracted personnel will have "oars in the water" to help our organization stay focused on our vision and serve our constituents.

My Experience of CPE: On Wearing a Cloak of Visibility

By Judith A. Dwyer

A few years ago, our family went on a very special trip to Scotland, birthplace of my husband's grandparents, to celebrate several important milestones (including the graduation of our twins from college and the marriage of our eldest daughter.) Walking through Edinboro, we were delighted to stumble upon the coffee house where Harry Potter was given life through the writings of J. K. Rowling.
