ACPE Academy for Continuing Education |
The ACPE Academy Fall Webinar Series and Elevator Speech Course Ever wonder how to go about putting together that "elevator speech" about what you do as a pastoral care educator/professional? The ACPE Academy has a complimentary online course that walks you through the steps of developing a clear, concise way of describing what you do when time is limited and a memorable impression needs to be made. The course takes about 30 minutes and all you need is your computer. It can be accessed from the main page of the ACPE Academy website or through this link: http://www.acpeacademy.com/elevator/. The Summer 2010 webinar series is underway and quite successful with participants. One participant in the July webinar ("Making the Case for Your Pastoral Care Department Budget," Rev. Kelli Shepard, Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Phoenix) wrote: "This seminar was EXCELLENT - very well organized and presented, very practical and applicable." If you missed the July webinar, the recording can be purchased for $49 at http://www.acpeacademy.com/2010-webinars/. The August 19th webinar ("The Similarities and Differences Between Managing Employees, Students & Volunteers," Rev. Dr. Gregory Stoddard, Reading Hospital, Reading, PA) was also recorded and will be available at the same link soon. It's not too late to register for the September 16, 2010 ("Crucial Conversations in Managing People and Programs," Rev. Dr. Paula J. Teague, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD). Members can register online through the "Members Only" Section of the ACPE website. Non-members can utilize this registration form, which includes a listing of course objectives.
The Fall Series of webinars for October, November, and December are open for registration. Topics and presenters include: October 21, 2010 "Coaching and Counseling Employees" Richard Thorne, President, Thorne Consulting, Atlanta, GA November 18, 2010 "Expanding the Impact & Influence of CPE in the Context of Health Care Ministry" Rev. Dr. Scott W. Hinrichs, HealthEast Care System, St. Paul, MN December 16, 2010 "Success as a Committee or Task Force Leader in the Institution, Association and Community" Rev. Interested in Research for the ACPE? |
At the Spring 2010 ACPE Board meeting, the Executive Director was tasked to work with interested ACPE Supervisors and Centers and other research experts to design a research initiative for the ACPE. We need to invest in research, not just in terms of supporting individual projects but in growing organization-wide interest and involvement.
Therefore, our first task is to ask ourselves a basic question: What are the areas in which the ACPE -- its membership -- most needs to make knowledge claims that empirical research may be suited to provide? If you are interested in sharing your ideas about the kind of research the ACPE should do, please follow this link to send us your thoughts. |

What is ACPE Supervisory Education?
Within the past few months, the regional accreditation committee chairs have been receiving more questions about supervisory education and what may or may not be permissible with placements and satellite programs. This month's article is a reprint of an article from 2007 that many folks have found helpful. If you have questions regarding the management of supervisory education programs, please contact the chair of your regional accreditation committee.

Clinical Member Survey Reveals Diverse Membership, Desire to Be Involved | An online national survey of ACPE Clinical Members was recently conducted by Claudia Meyer, representing the Clinical Members Advisory Council. The survey was undertaken to explore the demographics of Clinical Members (who they are as a group), their reasons for engagement with ACPE (what they want as a group), their expectations for continuing education from ACPE, and their level of involvement in local CPE centers. Of 411 surveys successfully distributed, 138 were completed, a 34% response rate.

ACPE/CPSP conversation planned | Three representatives of the ACPE and three from CPSP will engage in a facilitated mediation session between the two organizations. The mediation meeting is scheduled for November 30, 2010. A mediation facilitator, Hon. Diane M. Welch from JAMS in Philadelphia, PA, has been contracted to work with us toward mediation of issues. The representatives will report the results of the mediation to the ACPE board, and in turn, the board will inform the membership once any decisions are made.
A directory of your board representatives can be found on the ACPE website here. |
