| End of the Year Reflections | From Our Director
Well another school year is almost over. Where did the time go? This time of year always makes me reflect on what another wonderful year this has been. So much has been accomplished. Park Academy entered into a great partnership with O.M.S.I. This partnership provided great experiences for both our upper and lower school students. The partnership included an all day Outdoor School experience. Oregon Symphony blessed us with a great interactive performance comprised of a string quartet called "Mousai Remix." Our students were a wonderful audience and fully engaged by asking insightful questions and participating with the musicians. Our students make us so proud of their respectful conduct!
Talk about demonstrating "giftedness!" It really shined during the all school theater performance. The acting was superb. Congratulations are in order for the way Mr. Sutton brought both upper and lower schools together for a magnificent performance of "The U.S.S. Park Academy Eagle." Our very own, Marcus Alleyne, designed the program cover.
Our Spring fundraising event, "The Walk" was well attended. The event generated over $25,000! Thank you so much parents and families for your donations, time and support to make this event such a great success.
Please place on your calendars June 7th for Exhibition Day- the students love having an audience. Please also place June 11th on your calendars for graduation.
I wish everyone a fun and safe summer vacation and look forward to seeing everyone in September, with the exception of our graduates who will be pursuing other exciting opportunities. Again, thank you all for your unwavering support!
Gratefully,
Dr. Paula Kinney School Director |

| Exhibition Project Showcase | Join us on June 7th!
Students are embarking on their Exhibition project, our end-of-the-year presentation. Each student will be working diligently to complete a unique presentation, complete with written, visual, and oral components. Park Academy students get to shine through their Exhibition products, showcasing their own strengths and giftedness. Students in lower school cohort A will be choosing a topic relating to Oregon history, while lower school cohort B will be focusing on chemistry. Upper school students will be creating a social action project, which will incorporate the creation of a product to raise awareness for their cause. We are very excited, and hope our Park Academy friends and families will join us on June 7th for our Exhibition! Click here to get directions to Park Academy. |
| U.S.S. Park Eagle |
A Park Academy Theatre Production
Theatre students performed a minor mystery aboard the U.S.S. Park Eagle on May 2nd. Upper school students were charming and played exceptional roles, such as a ship director, ship doctor, and ship purser. Lower school students danced the conga, told jokes, and played games on deck.
Student Grayson Gilstrap charmed us with his smooth moves and jokes; Christian Stecher intrigued us with his witty insights and improvisation; Kat Hillary awed us with her elegant and poised demeanor; and Kiran Mann stole the show with her solo singing performance. While the play took a mysterious turn, students retained its light heartedness and fun by singing and dancing while the ship was at sea. We are anxiously awaiting the next theatre production, which will be held in the 2012-2013 school year!

| Lewis & Clark Experiential Trip | Students travel to Oregon Coast for a 2 day learning trip
A group of Lower School students at Park Academy participated in a unique, unforgettable field trip in March. Students, teachers Ms. O'Connor and Ms. Welch, and Park Academy parent, Mr. Wilson, went to Cape Disappointment for an Experiential Overnight Trip.
Students went to the Washington coast beach town to visit the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. Students visited the Museum, participated in an Interpretive Program, and took a tour of the North Head Lighthouse. They also got the opportunity to hike to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse since the weather was so great. After a day full of educational activities, students sat down to do some important reflecting, writing, drawing and discussion about what they had seen, heard, and felt so far. The next morning, all were up bright and early to visit Fort Clatsop, where the students took part in a native plant scavenger hunt. Students also got to experience a replica of what the actual fort would have looked and felt like.
There was no shortage of delicious food on the trip. Mrs. Pope, a Park Academy parent, made amazing chocolate chip cookie; Ms. O'Connor made a leek and spinach frittata, sour cream apple coffee cake, and grapefruit and banana salad for breakfast; and Mrs. Wilson made chocolate chip banana bread, which one student called the "good good chocolate bread."
Ms. O'Connor said, "I could not have asked for a better trip. The kids were fantastic, learned a tremendous amount, and had an experience they will never forget."

| Spring Fling: A Hawaiian Dance & Social Hour | Students celebrate the beginning of spring
Students gathered for a Hawaiian-themed dance, complete with beach balls, Hawaiian pizza, and tiki torches on Friday, April 20th in Baxter Hall. Students in attendance enjoyed a delicious spread of cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and chips while they socialized and watched movies. Then, they danced the night away under colorful lights thanks to music from our teacher and DJ, Mr. Sutton. The students had a wonderful time. Our next dance will be held in the fall.
Special thanks to Ms. Barton and Mrs. Morris for organizing this event.
