Director, Paula Kinney
2010 End of Year Reflections
From the Director

From the inception of the school, Park Academy has made a commitment to serve students with dyslexia and other diverse learning challenges. I believed, because of our multisensory instructional approach and small class sizes, the students who enrolled in our school would be in a "good place" and would begin to feel better about coming to school as well as begin to succeed more than they did in a traditional school setting. What I did not know was that these extremely gifted and creative students would become our teachers. Ms. Singer, our theater and art instructor, made a profound statement to me one day when she said, "My students have taught me how to teach them." I came to realize the best teaching and learning take place when learning is two-fold: student as learners and teachers as learners. We are fortunate to have students and families who have come to us from such diverse backgrounds and experiences; economically, racially, culturally and intellectually. All of whom have become our teachers.  Our mission statement extends beyond just "empowering our students to reach their highest potential of giftedness." As staff, we have been blessed at Park Academy to be "empowered to reach our highest potential of giftedness" in reaching within ourselves to find the gifts, knowledge, skills, and love to teach our students.

As this school year draws to an end, I am already excited about starting the beginning of a new school year. I know that with each year our students will become better prepared for the challenges that will face them as adults in a global society and we, as staff, will be more and more better prepared to teach them....our students will continue to help us become better at "teaching us how to teach them."

Thank you students and families for your partnership in helping us create a welcoming, supportive, intelligent and stimulating environment. Have a great summer

Gratefully,

Dr. Paula Kinney
School Director

Coming Soon - Park Academy Video & New Website
Local Creative Firms Donate Time and Talent

Thanks to the efforts and generosity of two local creative types, Park Academy will soon have a new promotional video and a new Website. Impressed by what they saw happening at Park Academy they said "YES" when asked to help us update our look and create tools to increase awareness about the school.
Andrew Reed, Leopold Ketel's creative director and Rob Tyler of VCR 100 collaborated last fall to create an informational video for Park Academy. Donating much of their time, Andrew and Rob shot five hours of interviews and endured several rounds of edits to reach the final product which will be released soon. Andrew is also designing a new Website for the school which will be built over the summer by long time Park Academy supporter, Brandon O'Dell, owner of EduSyst.
We are so grateful to the generosity of people like Andrew, Rob & Brandon and all our wonderful parents , teachers and volunteers who put so much effort into making this school a wonderful, safe place to learn.
