Greetings!

Winter slipped past us this year, leaving the skiers desperate for a few more days on the slopes and the grass desperate for a drink of water.  You might be wearing shorts and tank tops, but you probably haven't packed away your winter clothes yet.  We have some great tips below on how to help your winter fabrics survive the summer break.

National Cesarean Section (C-section) Awareness Month is in the spotlight this month.  There has been a lot of talk about unnecessary C-sections in the past few years;  nationwide rates as high as 34% have been reported. The physicians at The Women's Health Group have a current C-section rate of 16%, including repeat C-sections;  we are very proud of that fact!  The average at North Suburban Medical Center is well below the national average at 19%!  There are very good reasons to have a C-section, but convenience isn't one of them.

Our latest blog article weighs in on the newest information regarding a yearly exam.  To find our blog, follow this link: www.thewomenshealthgroup.wordpress.com

Don't forget-the Thornton office now offers early morning hours on most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Get in and get on with your day!

Sincerely,

To Section or Not To Section

Cesarean section (C-section) is the delivery of a baby through an incision in the abdomen and uterus.  There are several reasons a physician may choose a C-section for you.  The reasons are based on sound medical protocol:

  • Maternal reasons: You, the mother, may have a medical condition
  • Fetal reasons:  Your baby may be stressed
  • Conditions of the mother/baby: Maybe your baby won't 'fit' through the birth canal
  • Placental reasons: The placenta may be interfering with the delivery

For more details on C-sections, please refer to our article here.

Time to Pack 'em Up!
With summer just around the corner, you may be packing up your winter woolens  to make room for your summer sundresses.  We have a few tips on how to care for those winter fabrics before you pack them away.  A little extra care before storing will ensure clothing that is ready for the winter months next year.
  • Make sure everything is clean and dry before placing in storage.
  • Most items should be stored flat with the exception of linen and metallic fabrics; roll these special fabrics.
  • Do not store your clothing in plastic if possible.  Containers that 'breathe' are recommended-think rattan trunks.

A few tips on general fabric care:

  • Set the color!  Place washable, vibrant colored garments in a sink full of clean water and one capful of white vinegar.  This will help 'set' the color and prevent fading and bleeding.
  • Prevent 'pilling'.  Avoid washing 100% cotton garments with garments containing polyester.  Cotton fibers will attach themselves to the polyester/cotton garments in the form of those pesky little balls of fiber.
  • Wash most clothing in cold or warm water for better results.  Hot water can cause fading and shrinking.  Dry on low heat to avoid shrinking and remove immediately to minimize wrinkles.

Monthly glimpses at the patient benefits of electronic health records

WE RESPECT YOUR HEALTH CARE DOLLARS
Our electronic health record (EHR) system allows us to be shrewd Computer mouse
stewards of your health care dollars.  Utilizing our EHR, we compare inventory to actual procedures.  We run monthly reports to track inventory and monitor supply use.  By knowing exactly what we need, we do not waste money in surplus inventory.  When a business (or medical office like ours) stocks a huge surplus in supplies, the customer (or you, the patient) will see the increased costs.  The EHR allows us to run lean and not pass the expense of excess overhead on to you.
The Women's Health Group, P.C. is here for you from your first hormones to your last hormones and every stage between.  Since 1994, the physicians have delivered more than babies; they deliver compassionate, skilled care based on progressive yet time-tested procedures.

Thank you for choosing The Women's Health Group-as a patient or newsletter subscriber!  We appreciate you!
