The Women's Health Group
Do You Really Need One?

Do you really need an annual exam?  Confused about the need for a Pap test?  It's understandable; it seems like the rules keep changing!  The guidelines for the Pap test have changed.  Again.  The Women's Health Group continues to monitor the updated guidelines for Pap tests.  While yearly Pap smear screening is no longer recommended for most women, there are many good reasons to see your doctor once a year for that annual exam.

The annual exam is the best time to discuss your general health and wellness with your physician.  While you may not need a Pap test every year, annual exams continue to be a wise investment in your health.
  • Do you have a new partner?
  • Do you need to discuss birth control options?
  • Do you have general health concerns?
  • Are you ready for a colonoscopy?
  • Have you had a mammogram?
  • Do you need a test for osteoporosis?
You may have other risk factors that will affect your general health; your annual exam is the best time for those discussions.

You can trust the physicians at The Women's Health Group to stay up-to-date with the recent changes in guidelines but also to care for your general health and wellness.  Our advice?  Keep your annual exam appointment.  We will proceed with a Pap test only if it is indicated.
