Monthly glimpses at the patient benefits of electronic health records

 

From the needle to the mouse...your lab results are sent to our electronic system and placed in your 'chart' once the lab record and your office record are matched.  Something abnormal?  Your results are flagged and your doctor takes action and must sign off on that report.  What does this mean to you?  It means a random piece of paper cannot get stuffed into your chart (hopefully YOUR chart) and filed back on the shelf.  It means there is a task (the lab order) waiting to be matched to results, so the doctor and his assistant can make sure the tests are reviewed with you.  It means even if you can't remember when you had your cholesterol checked, WE remember.
